About the festival

THIS COMPETITION IS OPEN ONLY TO BERKS COUNTY, PA STUDENTS AND RESIDENTS

The Short Video Competition hosted by Alvernia University is dedicated to providing a community event for local film makers. Its vision is three-fold:

It is a competition designed to utilize the talents of students and adult residents of Berks County, PA to produce films up to 20 minutes in length.
This short video competition is also designed to benefit students and resident film makers in Berks County in creating and showcasing local talent .
It is an event designed to promote the city of Reading, PA as a positive place to live, work, and play which will receive a special prize.

Videos will be selected and screened at the competition’s award event.

Best high school student video (in each category)
Best college student video (in each category)
People’s Choice Award

There will be a red carpet event to announce the winners on April 21, 2017 at Alvernia University’s Bernardine Lecture Hall.

Terms and rules

Time: Running length of video to be no less than 30 seconds and no more than 20 minutes (including all credits) -- 5 minutes is the preferred length.

Opening Date for Submissions: January 10, 2017

Submission Deadline: April 3, 2017

Red Carpet Event Date: April 21, 2017

Eligibility: All Berks County residents (for Special Category only) or students enrolled in a Berks County high school or college. Minimum age is 13. Individuals under 18 will need parental consent.

Submitting videos: Submitters will be notified of their entry status. Decisions made by Alvernia University’s Short Video Competition are final. Copyright laws may apply to videos using sound recordings. By submitting a video, it is a condition of the entry that all winners agree to their name being made publicly available. Submitters retain ownership of their entries into the competition. By entering a video, submitters grant Alvernia University’s Short Video Competition non-exclusive license for the duration of copyright protection to reproduce or distribute their video in all media in order to promote or act as a historical record of the Competition.

Viewing Period: [during two weeks after submission deadline] All approved submissions will be available to view and vote during this time period (the video with the most likes will win the People’s Choice award).
