Animex Awards 2020 - CALL FOR ENTRIES!
Animex Awards is an international competition focusing on student animations from around the globe. Animex once again invites you to enter your work, open to any style genre and technique of animation.
Entry deadline: you can submit animations until the extended deadline of 16th February 2020.
The competition and film screenings are part of the 'Animex International Festival of Animation and Computer Games', one of the largest festivals dedicated to animation and computer games in the UK.
This edition for 2020 is open to animations completed by students while studying at a recognised University or Tertiary level film school, including graduation films. All the student categories are open to international entries from any country.
The best short animations are selected from the international entries to Animex Awards for curated programmes of animation shorts, that are screened at local venues, during March - May 2020. Animex Awards recognises the best short film in each competition category judged by industry professionals, as well as an Audience Awards where the audience votes for the most popular film. The award winning films will be announced at the Animation Party & Awards event on 10 May 2020, the eve of the Animex Festival 11-15 May 2020.
From visual effects to animation in all styles and techniques, from drawing to stop-motion to computer animation in 2D and to CGI, Animex Awards 2019 has a truly international perspective - we aim to celebrate the art of animation and showcase the talent of student animations from around the globe.
Previously we have received a record number of over 2000 submissions from more than 80 countries. Judging panels from previous awards have included representatives from Walt Disney Animation Studios, LAIKA, ToonBoom Animation, Beryl Productions International, Atomhawk Design, Pixar, ILM, Disney, Aardman Animation, Sony Image Works, DreamWorks and Electronic Arts, to name a few.
Judges and pre-selectors include animation academics, animation professionals and a student panel.
HOW TO SUBMIT:
We have simplified the submission process - all work must be submitted using FilmFreeway.
Entry deadline: 16th February 2020.
For your submission, please select one category to enter your animation to. The STUDENT categories are open to international entries from around the globe. Submission can be made by the student or by the animation school.
All student animations entered may also be considered for the other categories than you have submitted to. But you should submit your film to one category that is most applicable to the type of film.
TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Animex accepts digital video files for preview submitted to FilmFreeway.
When you add the online screener please choose the option ‘Upload’.
Upload of a high-quality digital video file is preferred.
The preferred file formats are .mov or .mp4 using the compression codecs ProRes 422 or H.264.
The preferred resolution is 1920 x 1080 pixels or 1080 x 720 pixels.
When you add the digital video file to FilmFreeway, it is recommended that you upload the best resolution version, if possible.
You can upload a high-quality HD video file up to 10GB.
This means that the selection panel and judges will be able to view the animation at the best quality to make the selections and awards.
But if you are providing a lower res version of your video, we will be able to ask you for a high quality screening copy, if your film is selected.
Please note: you should also enable download when your digital video file is uploaded to FilmFreeway or we may request a download. When you enable download, only the festival can download your animation for festival previewing, selection and judging purposes.
Enabling download to your film helps the festival process and is more efficient for our selections.
OR:
Alternatively, you may prefer to add the online screener as a Vimeo link. Vimeo screeners can include a password so that only the festival previewers can view it. Important: if your film has a password please make sure you have included the password on your FilmFreeway submission.
Please note: if your online screener on Vimeo is password protected, you should also enable download if possible. When you enable download, only the festival can download your animation for festival previewing, selection and judging purposes. Enabling download to your film helps the festival process and is more efficient for our selections.
If your film is selected for screening, then you will be notified by email that your film is invited and to confirm a screening copy from you.
