This call is open to all local, national, and international professional artists as well as artist collectives and film or digital media festivals. Persons with disabilities, visible minorities, and Indigenous artists are encouraged to apply. The City defines a professional artist as someone who earns all or a sizeable portion of their livelihood through remuneration for artistic creation and is recognized by their peers as an artist.
Film and digital works across various themes and subject matter are accepted. Artwork must be original and not violate the copyright of any person or entity.
All screen content must be accessible and suitable for families with children of all ages. Content should be both suitable and relevant for presentation on urban screens. Content guidelines have been established, based on a modified format of the Ontario Film Review Board Parental Guidance (PG) rating. Content with explicit use of alcohol, smoking, and illegal drugs, horror, offensive language, nudity, sexual activity and/or violence will not be considered appropriate.
Works can be silent or have sound but we ask that all audio be normalized. We ask that artists consider the setting and audience in regards to the type of sound and loudness of the work.
Submissions must adhere to the following technical requirements:
-Physical Screen Size: 15.75' x 28.35' (4.88 x 8.64 m)
-Resolution: 300 px high x 540 px wide
-Text: Content that is too small or cluttered, including small text, is not advisable as it may not be legible.
-Audio: Normalized; mastered audio should accommodate for an average threshold of 88db - A scale.
-Duration: Film longer than 15 min. is preferred.
The City of Mississauga, at its sole discretion, may request clarifications or request additional information, as deemed necessary to evaluate the submissions. The City retains the sole discretion to determine whether a submission is responsive and if the prospective Artist or Artist Team is capable of performing the Work. The City reserves the right to not proceed with awarding a contract. The City shall have the exclusive right to issue all public announcements regarding the competition.
