About the festival

The Basilicata International Film Festival is the first festival in the world to award short films made on the theme of food. The edition of the Basilicata International Film Festival will take place on 1-2 and 3 October 2020 in San Fele (PZ) in Italy. The screenings will take place in an open or covered place in public and free form.

Due to Covid-19 restrictions there will be no awards ceremony and the prize figurines will be mailed to the respective category winner.

Terms and rules

1- Registrations for BIFF 2020 (Basilicata International Film Festival) open June 1, 2019 and close on June 1, 2020;

2- Registration is exclusively online via the website www.filmfreeway.com/basilicatafilmfestival.it;

2.1- The Registration fee is divided as follows:
- Student | free;
- Short Film| 5€;
- Short Food| 5€;

3- The competition is open to short films, doc-films and short food (short films with food as a theme), including animation produced from 1 January 2018 to today; works created before this date will not be admitted to the competition;

3.1- Works that have participated in the past editions of the BIFF are not allowed;

4- Works from all over the world are admitted. Foreign works not in English must be subtitled in English or Italian. It also requires foreign works to send the dialogue list to facilitate understanding of the work;

5- At the time of registration the authors must be of age and declare to possess all the rights of economic use and vision of their work. They must also declare that their work is original and does not infringe on third-party rights;

6- Each author can register more than one work, provided he pays the respective registration fee;

7- At the time of the registration of the short films, doc.film and short food, the authors will have to provide a digital copy of the work at the festival, or alternatively upload it to Vimeo or a similar platform, to allow viewing and evaluation to the jury;

8- By registering for the competition, the festival is allowed to use its own works and the material requested for advertising, media and promotion purposes: in no way the BIFF and the organizers profit from the works, which will be projected for free during the days of the event.

9- By registering for the competition, the participant becomes a sympathetic member of the "Robin Williams" non-profit film cultural association for the calendar year 2020.

10- With the registration, the participants will have the right of free access to the various events organized, agreements with selected hotels and venues and the final prize-giving evening.

Admission to the competition

11- The submitted works will be initially evaluated by a technical commission to certify the possession of the requirements of the regulation and admit them in the official selection. Later the works will be evaluated by an external jury composed of professionals of the sector who will decide the winners of the various categories. The awards will take place during the closing night of the festival on October 3th 2020.

12- Once registration has been completed, the following files to be sent to the festival management will be requested via e-mail communication within and no later than 20 days from the date of receipt of the same:

Digital copy of the work in .mp4 h264 format (720p or 1080p | max 2gb;
10/15 sec clip or trailer to use in a promotional video of the festival, specific as above;
Poster of the work in A4 size minimum 300dpi (29.7 x 21 cm / 3508 x 2480 px) in JPG or PDF format;
Synopsis of the work of minimum 200 / maximum 350 characters.
Please also remember to carefully fill in the technical sheet of the work at the time of registration, indicating all the names and roles of the main artistic cast and the complete list and respective roles of the technical cast.

Exclusions

The festival management reserves the right to refuse works if the following situations occur:

13.1 - Failure to comply with the admission requirements set by the regulation; requested files not received within the established time, incorrect or missing information;

13.2 - Content contrary to the laws in force, incitement to hatred towards any culture or ethnic group, offensive to human rights;

13.3 - If 3 participating works are not reached in the following categories: Doc-Films, Short Films and Short Food. In this case the registration fee will be refunded.

14- Any attempt to obtain information on the final results of the competition before the final announcement that will take place during the awards ceremony will be punished with disqualification of the work and the entry fee will not be refunded.
