About the festival

The Bohemian Film Festival will give a $3,000 GRAND PRIZE to the Best Film and will feature juried national and international, shorts and feature length films. Screening of 60 films and hundreds of attendees are expected at the entire event.

On Saturday, there will be a Celebration honoring the 40th Anniversary of National Lampoon’s “Animal House”, which was filmed in Cottage Grove, Oregon.

The Festival Celebration includes the “World’s Largest Toga Party” and a Toga Parade down Main Street – the original route in the film, the Deathmobile, and cast and crew members. The Toga Party will have a Beer, Wine and Food Garden, and Music Concert featuring Animal House celebrities such as Otis Day, The Kingsmen; The Cry!, and the Original Knights.

The 3-day Film Festival will kick-off with an invitation-only, hosted Filmmakers Reception on Thursday evening, August 16, when the winner of the $3,000 GRAND PRIZE will be announced.

The small town of Cottage Grove, population 10,000, has twice been selected as an All-American City, and held the record for the world’s largest Toga Party until 2012, when two universities in Brisbane, Australia assembled 3,700. Help us win back the Guinness Record for the “World’s Largest Toga Party” and have a blast at the same time.

Cottage Grove is centrally located on Interstate 5 between San Francisco, Seattle and Salt Lake City; just 20 minutes south of Eugene, Oregon; home of the University of Oregon.

There also will be a fly-in of private planes. Hotel rooms are selling fast so get your reservation in early. For travel assistance, check with Travel Lane County, and the Cottage Grove Chamber of Commerce.

Please join us for a long weekend of storytelling.

$3,000 GRAND PRIZE and TROPHY will be awarded to the “Best Festival Film”.

In each category, the winning film will be awarded a “Category Festival Best Film” trophy. Some films may also receive a “Festival Best Film Nominee” certificate.

All films selected to be shown at the festival will receive an “Official Selection” certificate to recognize their screening at the festival.

Selected filmmakers who attend will receive an invitation to the hosted Filmmakers’ Reception where the winner will be announced. The Reception will be a media event and an opportunity to meet other filmmakers whose films will be screened. In addition, the invitation-only Reception will include selected film industry professionals with decades in the industry. Beginning filmmakers will have the opportunity to connect, network, and learn from these professionals.

Terms and rules

We prefer films completed within the last five years.

SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Film reviews are done exclusively online so films must be submitted online from secure sources. FilmFreeway or Vimeo are our preferred platforms, but others may be accepted as well. No physical media will be accepted for review.

Include film screener-link and password in your submission. To screen a film at the event, we will need to download in advance. So, be sure Download is turned on. We do NOT accept DVD or Blu-Ray films.

Submission should include: (1) a “Caption Description” of 25 words or less, (2) a “Summary Paragraph” not to exceed 75 words, and (3) a single photo or illustration from the film. It is highly suggested you provide website links to single and/or multiple trailers; 10 seconds to 2 minutes each.

In your submission, please provide the names of the screenwriter, producer, director, and principal cast.

All films in languages other than English must have English subtitles. No films in the horror genre or films with gratuitous violence will be considered.

The festival will consider work-in-progress. Films should be marked as either “Rough Cut” or “Work in Progress/WIP”. Incomplete materials or changes to be made should be clearly indicated (e.g. temporary score, missing VFX, no color-correction) both in your cover letter and the film cut itself (ideally as a title card at the start of the film). Please, no countdown leader or sync beep at the film’s beginning.

Submit to only one category. Bohemian Film Festival reserves the right to determine eligibility of a category submission.

PUBLICITY.

If your film is selected for screening at the Bohemian Festival and you would like local or hometown publicity, please provide a list of your publicist or media contact information.

A press kit, containing hi-res action shots (NOT behind-the-scenes photos), filmmaker and team bios, resume, and credits, is optional but highly recommended. Digital only.

COPYRIGHT AND LEGAL TERMS

By entering your film for consideration by the Bohemian Festival, you hereby grant the right to use an excerpt of any film accepted for exhibition at the Festival for promotion purposes.

You attest that your work is cleared for festival exhibition and accept full legal responsibility for the intellectual property therein.

The submitting individual or corporation associated with the project hereby warrants that it is authorized to commit the film for screening; and shall indemnify and hold harmless Bohemian Festival and its corporation or representative or affiliates from and against any and all claims, liabilities, losses, damages, and expenses (including but not limited to attorney’s fees, and costs of the court), which may be incurred by reason of any claim involving copyright, trademark, credits, publicity, screening, and loss of or damage to the screening videos entered.

Should your film be accepted, we ask permission to keep a copy of the film for our Festival library. This request is voluntary and is not conditional.
