About the festival

The Boreal Film Festival is a project of the Anchorage Museum, a way to celebrate the Northern region, the art of filmmaking and as a lead-in to the Museum’s Critical Futures gathering and annual North x North Festival. The Boreal Film Festival will showcase films that are made in the North, about the North, or highlight issues relevant to the contemporary and future North. Directors and filmmakers will also gather to discuss both place and craft and to advance cooperation and collaboration between filmmakers across the Circumpolar North.

⁃ Climate—bearing witness to change and proposing responses
⁃ Female filmmakers/femme films
⁃ Indigenous filmmakers
⁃ Radical Invention

Terms and rules

Filmmakers from Alaska and across the globe are invited to participate.

Filmmakers may submit narrative, documentary, short or animated films.

Feature-length films may be highlighted within the event, and short films may be screened as a part of a program with other short films.

Any screening fees must be made known to organizers at the time of submission.

Filmmakers may be notified on a rolling basis.

Instructions regarding final media will be sent after films have been accepted.
