About the festival

Caledon Public Library has been hosting our Young Reels Film Festival for 10 years and this year we are reintroducing our acclaimed film festival as an online Battle of The Reels contest with the goal of creating a more accessible contest. We are calling all students to get involved and submit their work! Contest is open to all students of high school age - (grades 9 - 12) and all it takes is your online submissions!

Battle of The Reels is accepting submissions from May 1st to December 1st, 2019.

Aspiring student directors and filmmakers are welcome to submit their original short film/s (under 10 minutes, using live action, cartoon, animation, claymation, drama, documentary or any other genre) for the opportunity to have their films showcased on Caledon Public Library's YouTube channel, as well as, to submit for a chance to win monetary prizes in one or more of the following categories: Best Direction, Best Special Effects, Best Public Service Message, Best Animation (NEW this year!), Critic’s Choice, and Audience Favourite. This is a chance for our community’s youth to make a statement, be heard, and tell a story using their voice.

Monetary prizes in the following categories: Best Direction, Best Special Effects, Best Public Service Message, Best Animation, Critic’s Choice, and Audience Favourite.
