Cheap Thrills is a free independent community film festival about the joy of home made movies.
There are four rules. Films must be
1. Short (12 mins or less, the shorter the more chance of inclusion)
2. Entertaining
3. Family friendly
4. Cheap.
We offer free technical support for non-moviemakers, and a warm audience for novice and pro alike. We charge no film entry fee, no film festival admittance.
It all adds up to a friendly event that’s a great night out away from mass entertainment. It’s about sharing with an audience; it’s about community, and accessibility, not about money.
The festival was created in 2011 by us, a team of freelance artists, arts managers and filmmakers - we pull it all together in our own time and with the goodwill, enthusiasm and creativity of other people. We keep the costs as low as possible and cover any cash we need to spend by asking for donations for refreshments on the night. We're proud that the festival gets bigger, better and cheaper each Year.
Please note, the notification date has been put back, we still have hundreds of unviewed submissions. The price of being free, please bear with us, we want to look at them all.
Stop press, can you please make sure your video is available for download, please note that I emailed quite a lot of you about this, you are only on the long list, shortlisting and final selection have not yet begun. Don’t get too excited. I've watched 800 films so far, and I have hundreds to go.
There is very limited time available, so inclusion in the festival is it's own accolade. There are no other prizes, if you're in, you're a winner. Being free, we get a lot of entries, being picked means your work is outstanding.
