Collected Voices 2020 is looking for the best films made by amateur and professional filmmakers about life in Chicago and abroad. This year Collected Voices theme is INTERSECT, All the Ways We Connect! We are looking for stories that highlight the ways people relate to each other across cultural constructs.
Official selections will be played throughout the city in thematic screenings, in which audience members will nominate the best films of the night. Officially nominated films will re-screen, followed by a Q&A with present directors on closing night. Winning films will be announced at the final screening and awards party.
Collected Voices features original ethnographic media that explore the intersection of race, age, class, gender, and sexuality within Chicago and society. The goal of the festival is to introduce the ethnographic genre to non-academic communities through short and feature length films and highlight Chicago based artists. The festival also increases exposure for independent filmmakers, and fosters a dialogue between media artists, academics and marginalized communities.
The Best of the Fest are recognized at our annual Halloween Awards Party with laurels to be used on future works.
