About the festival


***Submissions open ONLY for short films (fiction, documentary, animation) produced by students from undergraduate film and media programs including students graduating in the academic year 2018-2019. The filmmaker must have been an enrolled student at the time (department, division or film school must be listed in the film credits). All works must be 30 minutes or less in length. Graduate/postgraduate (MFA, etc.) level projects are NOT accepted, they can only be screened during the out of competition program. ***

Contact – International Student Film Festival is a short film festival with the competition. Every October, our festival presents students works selected from over 1.500 submissions representing different countries. An out-of-competition program will feature screenings and masterclasses by international guests and film schools, special presentation and exhibitions, workshops and talks.

The guest film schools were HFF Munich, LODZ Film School, La Fémis, and Escola Superior de Teatro e Cinema respectively. Other schools selections included FAMU, Korea University of the Arts, Zelig Film School Louis Lumiere (Paris, France), Erciyes University (Kayseri, Turkey) and Mimar Sinan FAU (Istanbul, Turkey) to present a non-competitive showcase of the current student film productions from Europe and beyond. This year’s guest school will be Filmakademie Baden Württemberg (Germany).

CONTACT is organized by the Faculty of Communication at Yaşar University (Izmir, Turkey).

Contact – International Student Film Festival is a short film festival organized by Yaşar University (Izmir, Turkey) Faculty of Communication.

CONTEST REGULATIONS

The festival will be held from 21st to 25th October 2019 in Izmir (Turkey) and will be divided into two different programs:

a) international competition of short films made by university students currently enrolled in film and media courses or students that will graduate in the academic years 2018-2019;

b) out-of-competition, film schools showcase, special programs of International film schools and other special presentations.

International Short Film Competition
In order to be accepted and selected in the International Short Film Competition, these criteria should be met:

- the film must not exceed 30 minutes; fiction/narrative films, documentaries, and animation will be taken into consideration;
- the film must date from January 1st, 2018;
- the film should be a production of currently enrolled students in film schools or cinema and media departments in universities and institutes, including students that will graduate in the academic year 2018-2019 (student affiliation -department, division or film school- should be specified as a producer in the application and in the film credits);
- the film has to be shot in PAL format, and recorded on digital media;
- each applicant can submit a maximum of two films in total for pre-selection;
- the official student certificate should also be uploaded with the film.
- if the movie uses a language different from English, the film must have English subtitles;
- there is no fee for submission or for participating in the festival.
- there is no screening fee payable to copyright owners.

The final deadline for submission is 25 July 2019.

Applicants will be informed of the selection and acceptance of their film by late August 2019.

No film selected may be withdrawn from the Festival program once the selection has been made. The Festival invites film directors (or their substitutes) as its guests, partially covering the traveling expenses of directors with films participating in the international competition (one guest per film) and free accommodation when available.

Competition finalists must provide an official (duly signed and stamped, and in English) students certificate from their institutions. The festival committee reserves the right to refuse any project which does not meet this requirement.

Your works will only be screened at the festival. No works will be screened or broadcasted publicly other than academic and educational purposes.
