About the festival

CR8:BLK is hosting its first short film competition for the CR8:BLK Presents The 1st Black Women Cinema Week at Eaton DC Theater space in Washington, DC. All films selected will be screened in Washington, DC during the Black Women Cinema Week. This event will be free to the public and is being co-sponsored by Eaton DC Workshop to be held in the Eaton Theater space. CR8:BLK's Black Women Cinema Week is a 5-day long event featuring film screenings, panels, and workshops. The BWCW 2019 Short Film Competition is apart of this event.

CR8:BLK (Create Black) is a non-profit organization aimed towards celebrating contemporary Black and African Art created by women of color. Contemporary Art is defined to include current works of sculpture, painting, film, media, and other creative platforms. CR8:BLK will use publications, digital media, and outreach programs to further foster creativity in Black communities globally.

Mission

The RWUL Legacy Grant "Keturah Caesar " Grant of $300 will be awarded and Fiscal Sponsorship and CR8:BLK mentorship from independent film organizations and filmmakers. Other prizes will be announced closer to the date of CR8:BLK's Black Women Cinema Week.

Terms and rules

CR8:BLK Short Film Submission is open from May 10, 2019-August 15, 2019. Films must be between the length of 4-30 minutes long and must be produced, written, directed, or have cinematography done by an independent Black woman filmmaker from anywhere in the world. Both U.S. based filmmakers and International filmmakers may submit. Film submissions have $10 entry fee and filmmakers are allowed to submit only ONE film for consideration.

*Note all accepted filmmakers and artists for CR8:BLK Short Film competition are responsible for their own travel expenses for attending CR8:BLK Presents Black Women Cinema Week. CR8:BLK does provide hotel recommendations for Eaton DC and assistance in finding affordable air flights. Films submitted will only be used for the purpose of the CR8:BLK Black Women Cinema Week at Eaton DC Workshop.
