This Decatur/Atlanta-based festival series showcases short documentaries about people and places primarily in the U.S. South. Our mission is twofold: benefit filmmakers by providing a platform to showcase their work, and benefit our community by providing a forum for fresh perspectives and insights.
Beginning in fall 2020, we'll be going online with virtual screenings and zoom talkbacks with filmmakers.
Fall 2020: "Arts in the South"
Spring 2021: "Southern Currents: People, Land & Water"
Student filmmakers requesting a discounted submission fee should email decaturshortdocs@gmail.com and describe their film and student status.
We're only looking for films about the South or made by people in the region (sorry, international filmmakers).
Our selections are chosen with our community in mind. We look for films with the heart and soul of this diverse region. We offer FREE admission to audiences with the goal of screening your films to as diverse an audience as possible.
ONE BIG PLUS... When you submit your work to us, you often hear back within a week or so about the status of your work PLUS notes from reviewers. If your work isn't accepted, you'll know why and whether it's a good idea to submit to other, pricier, premium festivals.
All screenings will take place in the heart of Decatur (near great restaurants and bars) at the Decatur City Library auditorium... when social distancing is a thing of the past.
ABOUT THE FESTIVAL
The Decatur Short Docs Festival takes its responsibility to filmmakers, especially emerging ones, seriously. We will also review entries to ensure we find the best films for our community (hint… we are located within 10 miles of six colleges/universities). We invite filmmakers to attend and talk about their work with the audience.
