About the festival

DEPTFORD ANIMADOCS – SATURDAY 13th JULY 2019

A Celebration of Twenty-First Century Animated Documentaries

Part film festival, part symposium, the inaugural Deptford Animadocs aims to bring together filmmakers, audiences and academics interested in the phenomenon of animated documentaries. We adopt Annabelle Honess Roe’s definition of animated documentary as any film that:
‘(i) has been recorded or created frame by frame
(ii) is about the world rather than a world wholly imagined by its creator; and
(iii) has been presented as a documentary by its producers and/or received as a documentary by audiences, festivals or critics’ (Honess Roe 2013: 4).

We invite participants to submit short animated documentary films between 5 and 20 minutes in the English language or subtitled in English.

This is an entirely volunteer-run and not-for-profit event. All submission fees will go towards running the event, which will be hosted at Deptford Community Cinema – a volunteer-run and built cinema and arts space in South East London dedicated to bringing lesser seen films from across the world to London audiences in one of the UK capital's most deprived boroughs.

Filmmakers, whose films are selected for the event can attend the festival for free.
