About the festival

DesArts//DesCinés Festival evolves and becomes DAN.CIN.FEST. The Festival focuses more than ever on societal issues through the crossed perspectives of Dance and Cinema. Screenings, discussions, workshops and participative projects are open to children and adults, valid and disabled people. Since 2015, the Festival has developed an International Competition of Short Dance Films around a contemporary theme, different each year.

For 2019, the DANCIN.FEST International Short Dance Film Competition will focus on the theme "RIGHT(S)", in tribute to the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the 230th anniversary of the French Declaration of Human and Citizen's Rights.

The jury is composed with French and international artists or professionals from dance and/or cinema. The rewarded films are screened during the Festival and in the Competition international tour through the DAN.CIN.FEST network of partner festivals.
The winners are welcomed in residence for their next dance film in France, with the possibility of co-production.

3 prizes :
> Grand Jury Prize : 15-residency in France and companionship for the production and dissemination of a future dance short film.
> Special Jury Prize : 10-residency in in France and companionship for the production and dissemination of a future dance short film.
> Public Prize : 6-day residency in France and companionship for the production and dissemination of a future dance short film.

Terms and rules

I ORGANIZATION
Stéla association produces DAN.CIN.FEST in Saint-Étienne - France.

II DATES AND LOCATIONS
DAN.CIN.FEST is organized each year in patrimonial sites, public areas and cultural venues in the region of Saint-Étienne (France). The prize ceremony takes place during the Festival on a dedicated night.

III OBJECTIVES
The Festival main objectives are :
- reveal and support artists who are combining dance and cinema in their work,
- promote dance films as a genre to general audience and to dance and cinema professionals,
- give the opportunity to general audience to attend to a quality programme engaged on a societal matter from a worldwide perspective,
- create privileged moments during which the audience can meet with the artists to understand better their creative process and work.

IV JURY PANEL AND PRIZE
Among the chosen dance short films, the jury panel, composed with dance and cinema professionals, awards 3 prizes :
> Grand Jury Prize : 15-residency in France and companionship for the production and dissemination of a future dance short film,
> Special Jury Prize : 10-residency in France and companionship for the production and dissemination of a future dance short film,
> Public Prize : 6-day residency in France and companionship for the production and dissemination of a future dance short film.

V SELECTION
Short films pre-selected in the competition are screened during the Festival opening in various venues of the city and online for the public to vote.
Each selected film will be shown at least once during the Festival.
The selection criteria are based on screenplay, stage direction and choreography, editing and rhythm, dance interpretation, lights and relevance according to the annual theme of the competition.

VI ADMISSION
The Festival accepts short dance films from all over the world.
If there are dialogues, submitted films must be subtitled in French, in order to be seen by French hearing and deaf audience.
The minimal resolution of the film file is Full HD (from 1080p, at least 1920x1080 pixels).
The Festival only accepts films lasting 20 minutes maximum (including credits).
The films must be free of any screening/diffusion rights in the frame of the Festival and the Competition tour in the DAN.CIN.FEST network of international partner festivals.

VII FURTHER SCREENINGS OF SELECTED FILMS
The candidates applying agree that DAN.CIN.FEST present their dance films without any royalties due to the authors in the frame of free screenings (no tickets sales) or of the promotional actions of the DAN.CIN.FEST Short Film Competition itself, including program exchanges with other dance films festivals or events around the world. DAN.CIN.FEST insures the candidates in these cases the full promotion of the films credits, with a special attention to the authors - choreographers and directors.
