About the festival

This festival aims to inspire and showcase the creativity of student filmmakers worldwide. It is an open festival with no set boundaries; we actively encourage new styles, voices and direction. This is your chance to submit your film(s) and gain an opportunity to showcase your talents at Dirigo. Entries are open from the 9th of October 2019.

In light of COVID. The location of our venue, is in flux. In previous years, we have held the festival at the Arnolfini and the Cube cinema, in Bristol. This year we still hope to have a physical venue. However, we will also be hosting an online version of the festival, so an international audience can enjoy the festival.

If circumstances change, we will keep you updated.

Dirigo is directed and produced by FdA Film & Media Arts Production students from University Centre Weston.

Awards will be given out to:

The Best International Student Film - The best film submitted from outside the UK.

The Best UK Student Film - The best film submitted from the UK.

The Best in South West (England) Student Film - The best film submitted from the south west of England.

The Best Animated Film - The film with the best use of animation.

The Young Filmmakers Award - The best film from a filmmaker aged 18 and under.

The Audience Award - The audience's choice of the best film on the night.
