About the festival

DIVULGE Dancers' Film Festival (DF2) is a dancer’s film festival which annually takes place in Hollywood, California, USA.

It's a unique film festival that offers dancers/choreographers and filmmakers a chance to DIVULGE their story with dance on screen alongside live dance performances & competitions.

This year 2020, two new categories "Autobiography" and "Filmmakers on stage" will be introduced.

There is no other film festival that focuses solely on promoting the stories of dancers, their impact and the influence they have in our community and reveal their creative minds and portrayed through motion picture.

DF2 is poised to feature short and feature-length dance movies, dance documentary, dance videos, narrative dance videos, and music videos. It prioritizes films that are done with captivating storylines, cinematography, and creative choreography.

All forms of performance are accepted (i.e. Monologue, dialogue, non-verbal, with or without music, animation, etc.) with original/copyright approved music and original choreography with free and creative expression using different dance styles:

Terms and rules

-All films accepted to screen at film festival must be in DCP format.
-Films have to be submitted Only via FilmFreeway.
-Deadline for regular submissions is July 3, 2020. Please see other dates for early and late submissions.
-We will notify you if your work is accepted by August 17, 2020.
-No live recordings or performance is accepted.
-Films must not be more than two years old with no released versions on Social Media or other public video platforms: Youtube, Vimeo, etc
-Filmmakers should have all required rights and releases for all the persons presented, possess the rights or have permission to make use all images, music and content that is included in the entry.
-Submission fee has to be made at the point of submission.
-Once a film is submitted, it may not be withdrawn for any reason
-Submission fee is not refundable.

By submitting to Divulge Dancers’ Film Festival (DF2), we have the right to preview your film. If accepted, filmmaker must submit the film in DCP format.

DF2 holds the right to withhold this video file for DF2 archives.
If accepted you fully grant DF2 the non-exclusive right, royalty-free and license to showcase this film or video at the Divulge Dancers’ Film Festival.

Entrant(s) agree that clips from the entry and all publicity material submitted can be used for promotional purposes on radio, television, in print, web and at live events.

You will indemnify and exempt DF2 from and against all kinds claims, liabilities, damages, losses and expenses that might be incurred for any reason including trademark copyright, credits, screening, publicity and loss of or damage to the material.

This is not a live performance. The video has to tell a story or a message with the use of dance. The narrative story has to be expressed with choreography and other kinds of medium. Dance heavy musicals are also welcome. Film must be done with original music and choreography. We are seeking for artistic style, storytelling and cinematography. Filmmakers and dancers from around the world are welcomed.

Autobiography Short

This is a new category exclusive for filmmakers-dancers only. The film has to tell the film director's personal story what dance means to her/him and how it enriches her/his life. It can be a narrative and/or documentary and/or a hybrid genre. We are looking for innovative, artistic, engaging and original storytelling style. The film must be done with original music. The length must be a minimum length of 5 minutes and maximum of 21 minutes. The winner of this category receives a special award "Best Autobiography".

Filmmaker on Stage

This is a new category exclusive for filmmakers-dancers only. The film/video must be a performance (live or edited) of the film director. It can be a solo performance and/or with other dancers. The film director, however, must be the lead role of the performance. We are looking for innovative, creative, engaging and original storytelling style. The selected films/filmmakers will be invited to perform at the festival. The minimum length of the film/performance is one (1) minute and maximum of four (5) minutes. The winner of this category will receive a special award "Best Filmmaker on Stage".
