The objective of the Festival Ecuatoriano de Cine Atuk is to generate a short film competition open to filmmakers, students and independent filmmakers to promote and spread the recognition of local, national and international short films.

Terms and rules

1. REGULATIONS: FESTIVAL ECUATORIANO DE CINE ATUK

Festival Ecuatoriano de Cine Atuk will take place from October 10th to 17th, 2020. It was born as a cultural cinematographic need where we show a lack of attention to the production of short films by students, audiovisual producers and filmmakers.

The production of short films in our country is growing, but there are less and less spaces that promote their exhibition and recognition.

It is necessary to promote spaces of association and linkage of the short film with the citizens. In this way, we can build our own, intimate and valuable short film culture.

2. OBJECTIVE OF THE FESTIVAL

The objective of Festival Ecuatoriano de Cine Atuk is to generate a short film competition open to filmmakers, students and independent filmmakers to promote, disseminate and recognize local, national and international short films.

3. CONDITIONS

3.1. DATES

The 2nd Festival Ecuatoriano de Cine Atuk will take place in the city of Quito from October 10 - 17, 2020. Short fiction, animation and documentary films, made after January 1st, 2018, can participate.

3.2. FESTIVAL SECTIONS AND COMPETITIONS

The main themes are completely open to the choice of the short filmmakers.
The OFFICIAL COMPETITIONS, will be:

- Ecuadorian Fiction Short Film Competition
- Ecuadorian Short Film Animation Competition
- Ecuadorian Documentary Short Film Competition

3.3. PARTICIPATION AND REGISTRATION

The applications for Festival Ecuatoriano de Cine Atuk on this occasion are open for short animation, documentary and fiction films.

All short films must be completed after January 1, 2018.

The producer or director who holds the rights must register the short film to the Festival, before february 15, 2020.

Each producer or director can only enter 1 short film in each category (animation, documentary and fiction).

Short films must be less than 20 minutes long.

The registration of short films to Festival Ecuatoriano de Cine Atuk will be done by sending your work through the platform: FilmFreeway.

Once the projects are accepted, the requested materials will be sent by WeTransfer to the following email address: festivalcineatuk@gmail.com

3.4. REQUESTED MATERIAL

- Registration form (download registration form of website: www.festivalcineatuk.com)
- Scanned copy of identity card, ID or passport.
- 2 (two) stills of the film (frames), 300 DPI. Size 10cm high by 15cm wide in color. JPG format.
- 1 (one) photo of the director/s, 300 DPI. Size 10cm high by 10cm wide in color. JPG format.
- Synopsis of the short film maximum 600 characters, plus the list of all the production team of the short film. The file must be sent in Word.

4. SELECTION SELECCIÓN

The Selection Committee will be composed of members of Festival Ecuatoriano de Cine Atuk, who will carry out their work according to the parameters of quality and creativity previously established by the Festival's Management.

In case the film is selected, the person who made the registration will be notified and will be informed on the corresponding dates.

5. TRANSLATIONS

Non-Spanish speaking films will be screened with subtitles. In the case that the filmmakers have a version with Spanish or English subtitles, this will be of preference for the Festival, otherwise, the selection committee will evaluate its translation and subtitling according to priorities and resources.

6. JURIES AND AWARDS

The Jury will be composed of qualified professionals who are not part of the Festival's organization. All Juries may also award Special Mentions if they consider it appropriate, which in no case may be more than three. Other prizes and eventual mentions will be announced during the festival. The Jury will not be able to include those people who have an interest in the production and/or exploitation of the short films presented in Competition. The Jury's votes will be secret, and decisions must be taken unanimously.

The following prizes will be awarded:

- Award for best animation short film: Statuette and medal/s for the directors.

- Honorable Mention in animation short film (if applicable): Certificate from the Festival Ecuatoriano de Cine Atuk .

- Award to the best documentary short film: Statuette and medal/s for the directors.

-Honorable Mention in Documentary Short Film (if applicable): Certificate from Festival Ecuatoriano de Cine Atuk.

- Award to the best fiction short film: Statuette and medal/s for the directors.

- Honorable Mention in short fiction film (if applicable): Certificate from Festival Ecuatoriano de Cine Atuk.

7. CATALOGUE, PRESS, PROMOTION

The people in charge of the short films selected for any of the Competitions commit themselves to include in all their press and advertising material the phrase "Official Selection of Festival Ecuatoriano de Cine Atuk " and the Festival's logo.

The logo and its variations for funds must be requested to the Festival by means of an e-mail to: festivalcineatuk@gmail.com, with the subject: Promotion of selected short film.

8. TRAVELLING AND DIGITAL EXHIBITIONS

The selected short films may be included, after the Festival, in travelling non-profit cycles organized throughout the year on the country. In the case of international exhibitions, the programming proposal will be limited to the explicit authorization of the directors.

The projects selected for the competition will be published in our virtual platform, which will serve as a place of consultation and dissemination for Latin America for a period of at least 5 years. All rights of the short films will continue to be held by the producers and directors during this period.

9. STORAGE

Through an agreement with the Casa de la Cultura Ecuatoriana - Benjamín Carrión and the Festival Ecuatoriano de Cine Atuk, short films (only Ecuadorian short films) that have entered the festival selection will be taken into account to strengthen this public archive. A copy of the selected short films will be consigned to the Ecuadorian National Film Archive for educational purposes, unless the filmmakers expressly refuse.

10. ACCEPTANCE

The sending of the short films and documents for the participation in the 2nd Festival Ecuatoriano de Cine Atuk, implies the knowledge and total acceptance of the present rules and conditions. Any exception, doubt or conflict will be evaluated and resolved by the Festival's organizing committee. In addition, once registered and selected, the film cannot be withdrawn from the Festival's program, or can it be shown in any other area in Ecuador before its official presentation at Festival Ecuatoriano de Cine Atuk
