About the festival

Handmade Doc Fest is the first international documentary film festival in Italy that pays special tribute to documentary films on crafts and craftsmanship from all around the world.
The program offers on display works with high artistic qualities, inspirational stories, distinctive style and original approach to media which celebrate the beauty and cultural wisdom of both age-old and modern craftsmanship.

There are a huge number of skilled artisans around the world, carrying their culture and talents that have been passed down generations. However, the proliferation of mass production poses significant challenges to the survival of traditional forms of craftsmanship.
How can traditional craftsmanship survive in the modern world?
The festival aims to become an exhibition platform where audience, filmmakers and craftspeople from around the world can meet, share and discuss ideas in a friendly atmosphere and possibly make plans for future collaborations.

The festival jury is the audience and the award is given following a democratic public vote.

For more than 10 years Festival Troia Teatro audiences have delighted in an outstanding mix of independent theatre productions, breathtaking performance pieces, an eclectic array of musicians and striking visual arts displays.
The Festival is a large free art happening, offering both artists and audiences a unique opportunity to spend time sharing ideas and experiences in the medieval setting of the Southern Italian town of Troia.

Terms and rules

We invite producers and filmmakers from around the world to submit films on craft and craftmanship.
There is no submission fee.
Applicants warrant the submission of their original work and state that there are no disputes regarding the ownership of the submission. Applicants are solely responsible for obtaining all necessary rights and permissions for third-party materials included in the film, including but not limited to music, trademarks, logos, copyrights, and other intellectual property rights.
Deadline for applications is June 30th, 2017. In case a film has been selected, the Festival notifies the applicant, director, producer and distributor of the fact after July 1st, 2017.

Once the film has been selected, the following materials should be sent to the Festival Troia Teatro before July 15th, 2017:

- three stills (full-colour) (not less than 300 dpi);

- a photo of director (full-colour) (not less than 300 dpi);

- film publicity material;

- film trailer;

- English subtitles in international format *.SRT;

- Dialogue list in English with the timecode.
