About the festival

The Red Hawk Film Festival is a film festival created by Athens TV open to filmmakers and high school students around the world. Entries will be reviewed online. The Best in Show winners will be screened at the Athens TV Under the Stars Film Festival in May.

Cash prizes are awarded to Best in Category winners selected by a jury of high school students, college film students, teachers, and industry professionals.

This is a short film festival. Films must be 5 minutes or less.

Categories include:

BEST IN SHOW (open to all filmmakers)
BEST IN SHOW STUDENT FILM (open to all students)
BEST MICHIGAN FILM (open to Michigan high school students only)
BEST SPECIAL CATEGORY - The special category for the Spring 2016 Festival is GoPro.

All categories are multi-genre. We're simply looking for the best of the best!

All Official Selections receive laurels.

BEST IN SHOW ($50) - Best overall film.

BEST IN SHOW STUDENT FILM ($50) - Best overall film by a student.

BEST MICHIGAN FILM ($50) - Best overall film made by a Michigan high school student.

BEST SPECIAL CATEGORY ($50) - Best film in the special category. The special category this year is GoPro. Films entered into this category must be made using a GoPro camera and can be up to 5 minutes in length.

*Prizes will not be awarded if there are not suitable entries for each category.

Terms and rules

The Red Hawk Film Festival is open to all for Best in Show and Special Category consideration. The Student category are open to high school students (9th-12th grade or 14-18 years old only). The Michigan category is open to high school students in Michigan only. You may enter multiple categories if you qualify.

1) All entries must be submitted through FilmFreeway using Vimeo or YouTube. Please make sure submissions are not password protected.

2) All submissions and payments are final. There are no refunds.

3) The decisions of the jury are final.

4) By submitting to the festival, you confirm that you own all rights to content in your film.

5) Films not in English must have English subtitles to be considered.

6) All genres will be considered--please enter your film in the appropriate category.
