About the festival

The IFFC (International Film Festival Cologne) is an emerging film festival created to highlight the international talent of emerging and established filmmakers alike.

Featuring categories such as “Best Feature Film”, “Best Music Video” and “Best Experimental Film”, the focus lies on highlighting the broad landscape of different kinds of storytelling and rewarding the various people that are involved in creating the movie experience as we know it.

This years edition will run 4 days to give every film the attention it deserves and to encourage networking.

Besides showcasing amazing work by international filmmakers, we will have creator talks, masterclasses and workshops as well as big tech companies and developers involved.

This year the Cinegate Price, worth 7.500€ in rental equipment, was won by Lina Zacher for her amazing work on her documentary "Fonja".

Furthermore we curated mini web series "Für Umme//For Peanuts" which was added on amazon prime 4 days later. It`s the first "mini web series" ever to be bought and streamed by amazon prime.

There will be 10 awards for:

Best Acting Ensemble
Best Acting Performance by an Actor/Actress
Best Cinematography
Best Documentary
Best Web Series
Best Music Video
Best Experimental Film

For every category there will be 5 nominations.
All nominated films will be shown during the IFFC.
At the end of the IFFC, the winners will be announced at the award ceremony.

Every winner of each category is going to receive a statue and an award certificate.
Some Awards come with a prize.

Terms and rules

The submitted film must have been finalized within the last 2 Years before the edition of the IFFC you submit to begins.

If a film is nominated it will be shown in full length at the IFFC. Every film will need to provide a digital copy of the film and a DCP wether it was shot digitally or not.

The IFFC will not pay any screening fees and will not demand screening fees from the submitters.

After the entries closed, projects can not be withdrawn. A withdrawal is only possible when the entries are open. If you are nominated, wether it was announced publicly or not, your film will be screened.

Legal Note:
All rights to the image, sound etc. must be obtained from the submitter. The festival is not liable for any violations of copyright and personal rights, as well as marketing rights or trademarks.

If one of the violations is committed, the subcontractor is liable for any damaging loss.

The person or organization that is submitting the film must own the rights to do so and is responsible for the content they are providing. By submitting, the filmmaker allows IFFC to present their film in front of a live audience and to upload extracts onto our website without infringing copyright of any kind of form. The entry fee is not refundable for films that did not get selected. The entry fee is not refundable for films that were withdrawn.

By entering your film for consideration for the International Film festival Cologne, you authorize that your work is cleared for festival exhibition and accept full legal responsibility for the intellectual property therein. Entry into the festival constitutes permission to exhibit your work in front of a live audience at the International Film Festival Cologne. International Film Festival Cologne is also hereby granted the right to utilize an excerpt (film sequence, sound or photo) from any film submitted and accepted for exhibition at the Festival for promotional purposes. The undersigned shall indemnify and hold harmless the International Film festival Cologne from and against any and all claims, liabilities, losses, damages, and expenses (including but not limited to attorney’s fees, and costs of the court) which may be incurred by reason of any claim involving copyright, trademark, credits, publicity, screening, and loss of or damage to the screening videos entered. The International Film Festival Cologne does not pay screening fees. By submitting your film via FilmFreeway you acknowledge that the festival will not pay to present your work.

Tickets can only be refunded if the event is canceled, not if it is postponed.

Any serial storytelling is considered a "Web Series", wether it is meant to be for TV or video on demand. All types of serial storytelling are excepted, the length of each episode or the number of episodes do not matter. Please only submit your Web Series to this category if each episode has a duration of at least 21 minutes. Any Web Series with shorter Episodes is considered a "Mini Web Series". Please submit the Pilot Episode or the whole Series, no trailers! The Pilot Episode OR the whole Series will be screened if nominated, depending on several factors. The Director will be given the engraved Award Statue, but Writers, Producers, DoPs and the Key Cast will all be given an Award Certificate in recognition for their Outstanding Achievement.
