Terms and rules

REGULATIONS FOR ALL COMPETITIONS 2019 - II BIS

1. GENERAL INFORMATIONS

The spirit of the Biennial International of Sound Cinema (BIS) is one of friendship. It’s aim is to reveal and focus attention on work of quality in the sound area of motion picture in order to contribute to the evolution of the sound language of motion picture arts and encourage the development of studies and new creative works on sound cinema.

The 1st Biennial International of Sound Cinema (BIS) will be held from Thursday 16th Mars to Saturday 25th Mars, in Goiânia-Go, Brazil.

2. ELEGIBILITY

a. Films until 21 min are eligible for the short competition.
b. For the feature film competition the film must have at least 60 min.
c. The film must have an interesting and creative work on sound language.

3. RIGHTS
The person or institution submitting the film is responsible for clearing all rights to the content of the work relevant to the film's use at the festival. This includes the actual screenings, the industry film market and the use of excerpts on our website. By submitting, they state that they are authorized representatives thereof, i. e. that screening or other use of the film by the Festival does not infringe rights held by third parties (e. g. copyrights, personality or trademark rights), and that especially the rights to any material produced by others (music, film footage, photo- graphs, text etc.) used in the film have been cleared. They furthermore shall indemnify the BIS against all third-party claims in connection with screening/using the film in the course of the Festival. This includes covering any legal costs that might be incurred.

4. ENTRY PROCEDURE / DEADLINE

For foreign film:

The application must be made through the FilmFreeway platform (https://filmfreeway.com/bis).
Earybird deadline: January 31, 2019
Regular deadline: February 28, 2019

For Brazilian films:
The entry form with all the required information needs to be full filled on www.bis.art.br
by February 28, 2017. Please use a separate entry form for each film submitted. All sections of the form must be filled in. Stills should only be sent on request.

5. COMPETITON

10 feature films, including documentaries and fiction, will be selected for the competition.
15 short films, including documentaries and fiction, will be selected for the competition.

The jury for the films in competition is obliged to award:
Best Sound Direction;
Best Direct Sound;
Best Script Sound;
Best Sound Edition;
Best Mixing;
Best Sound Effects;
Best Sound;
Best Soundtrack.

6. PREVIEW COPY
The Internet link needs to have password.

7. NOTIFICATION
The responsible of submitted films that are accepted will be notified via e-mail at may 2019. There will be a list of accepted films on our website www.bis.art.br and our social networks @biscinemasonoro e https://www.facebook.com/bienalcinema/

8. SCREENING COPIES

Accepted formats:
- DCP
- Container: mov, mp4
- Video Codec: H.264 (only for short movies) / ProRes / DNxHD
- Audio: AAC (max: 320 kBit/sec)
- Resolution: 1920x1080 progressive (1080p) / 2K
- fps: 24 / 23.94 / 25 / 29.97
- Bitrate min: (if possible) > 2MBit/s (0,5 MByte/sec)
- Bitrate max: 30MBit/s (3,75 MByte/sec)

We do not accept HDCam videotapes. Screening copies need to have five seconds of black before and after the film. If the original version is in a language other than Portuguese or Spanish, the film needs to be subtitled in Portuguese. If the original version is in Portuguese or Spanish, it’s appreciated that the film has subtitles in English or French.

9. INSURANCE

The Festival will insure the films for the whole time of their being in the Festival´s possession.

10. DISPATCH
Dispatch inside Brazil or from abroad: by mail or courier. All deliveries from outside Brazil must be marked with the phrase 'no commercial value - for cultural purposes only”. With screening copies from countries outside Brazil, please include a 'pro forma invoice” with a print value of less than US $ 20,00 in total.

11. DISPATCH COSTS
The applicant is responsible for the costs of sending the viewing and screening copies to the festival. The festival may cover the costs of returning/forwarding screening copies.

12. RETURN DISPATCH
All screening copies will be sent back to the applicant as soon as possible after the festival.
