About the festival

The International Film and Human Rights Festival of Valencia – HUMANS FEST is organized by Fundación por la Justicia, in collaboration with different NGOs from Valencia. The main aim is to sensitize and raise awareness about Humans Rights through art and culture.

The purpose of the Festival is to promote a kind of cinema that shakes the hearts and minds of society. For this reason, we bet on a selection of documentaries and fictional films that offer a rough and first-hand look at the different topics treated related to Human Rights.

XII HUMANS FEST 2021 - ENGLISH RULES & REGULATIONS (Español a continuación)

Preamble:
The new edition of the Film and Human Rights Festival of Valencia, Humans Fest, will be held from 8th to 21st February 2021.

GENERAL RULES:

1. Topics:
a) Only films with a theme related to the 1948 Universal Declaration of Human Rights may participate.
b) In the Official International Selection of Short Films, only productions whose topic deal with children, youth, and Human Rights may participate.
c) For the selections HumansVLC, One Minute One Right, Web series, and Gamers, the films have to be related to human rights in a general way.

2. All productions must be finished after 1st January 2019.

3. Works must be subtitled into English, Spanish, or Catalan (included in .srt format).

4. Open call for the following selections:

International Feature Films Competition
International Short Films Competition
International Web Series Competition
Valencian Short Films, "Humans VLC"
Valencian mini-shorts "Un minuto, Un derecho” (One minute, One right)
Humans Gamers I International Contest of Serious Video Games and Virtual Reality.

5. Registration deadline: October 31, 2020. Deadline for Selection 1 Minute 1 Right: January 15, 2021. Deadline for Serious Videogames and Virtual Reality Selection: March 8, 2021

6. Works in progress are accepted.

7. Submissions will be possible through FilmFreeway.

8. International Feature Films Competition Selection:

a) Feature films must have a minimum duration of 70 minutes.
b) The film must not have been released in Valencia.
c) Subtitles in Spanish, Valencian or English (srt format required)
d) All selected films will receive a screening fee.
e) An independent jury will decide the First Prize (honorific mention).
f) EDAV, the Valencian scriptwriters' association, will decide the prize for the best script, without financial endowment.
g) The registration fee is 15€.

9. International Short Films Competition Selection:

a) Short films must have a maximum duration of 30 minutes, and deal with the topic of children, youth, and human rights.
b) Subtitles in Spanish, Valencian or English (srt format required)
c) An independent jury will decide the First Prize valued at 1,000 €.
d) The registration fee is 5€.
e) Short films must not have been released in Valencia.

10. Humans VLC - Valencian Short Films Selection:

a) Short films must have been produced in the Valencian Community on 30% at least.
b) Short films must have a maximum duration of 30 minutes.
c) An independent jury will decide the First Prize valued at 750 €.
d) The screenwriters association EDAV will determine the Best Screenplay Award in the Humans VLC section, which will consist of one year of free registration as a member.
e) Registration Fee: 3€. If productions meet the requirements, Valencian producers may simultaneously register their works both in the international Selection and in the Valencian short film Selection. In the case of selection, the film will only be screened in one of the selections. If the authors request it and comply with the rules of registration they can request free registration at aurora.garcia@humansfest.com.

11. Valencian mini-shorts "Un minuto, Un derecho” (One minute, One right) selection:

a) Short films made in educational centers (official or not) located in the Valencian Community may participate. The topic must be related to human rights issues.
b) The maximum duration will be 1 minute and 20 seconds, including film credits.
c) The prize will be chosen by the audience through an online vote and will be given in the closing ceremony of the festival. Award: 400 €.
d) No registration fee. You can also send your short film directly to humans@humansfest.com. Stating title and author.
e) Registration deadline: January 15th, 2021
f) The mini-shorts will be screened online via our Youtube channel and at the Cinestudio d'Or film theater in Valencia city.

12. WEB SERIES International competition selection:

a) Minimum 3 episodes with a maximum length of 20 minutes each. If the series exceeds this number of episodes, the festival organization may choose to screen the episodes they consider.
b) Subtitles in Spanish, Valencian or English (srt format required)
c) The prize will be awarded by a jury and presented at the closing ceremony of the festival.
d) Registration Fee: 5 €
e) Award: 500 €

13.Humans Gamers Selection I International Contest of Serious Video Games and Virtual Reality:

a) Accepted techniques: 2D and 3D animation, applications, interactive video, virtual reality, video 360, augmented reality.
b) Format: Video. (Cinematic/Cutscene).
c) Topic: Social awareness of human rights.
d) Registration fee: 5 €
e) Participants: Any nationality, minimum age 18 years old.
f) Open registration period from August 24th to March 8th
g) Award: Honorable Mention
h) Award ceremony and screenings in April's on-site event.

14. Jury / Selection Committee:

a) The Humans Fest organization will decide the selection committees and the juries for each one of the selections.
b) In the case of the selection ‘Un minuto, un derecho’, the verdict shall be decided by popular vote.
c) The decisions of both the Selection Committee and the Juries shall be irrevocable.

15. Selected works:

a) The individual or legal entity that registrates the film declares that they have all the intellectual property rights of the work exhibited at the festival and the audiovisual material included in it (soundtrack, images of others, etc.). The festival will not be responsible if this rule is not respected.
b) Selected films may not be withdrawn by their producers.
c) Producers/distributors must send a copy of the film via online or in DCP, BluRay, or High Resolution with English, Spanish or Catalan subtitles in srt format to the festival headquarters. They must include a dossier of the work, three images of the film, and a bio filmography of the director.

d) The festival is not responsible for any shipping costs of the films.

16. Exhibition rights:

a) The festival will not be responsible for possible claims that arise from a breach of copyright by the films.
b) The festival may take a sample of the selected works to be used in any media with the purpose of promoting them within the framework of Humans Fest (printed program, press, Internet, social networks, trailer, etc.)

Participation in the Festival means the acceptance of these rules.
