About the festival

The first Jamaica International Reggae Film Festival was presented in 2008 in Kingston. Held over 3 days, the JIRFF screens films from Jamaica and the world that celebrate Jamaica's reggae music and culture in feature films, documentaries, short films, music videos and animation. Jamaican and international films of high quality and interesting themes are also included in the programmes.

The REGGAE FILM FESTIVAL is a cultural event featuring all aspects of reggae culture. A Book Fair, Seminars on aspects of film making, personal appearances by leading reggae artists and producers, as well as the sale of reggae music, art & craft and food, form important features of the JIRFF. A special feature of the RFF is the 'Make A Film In 24 Hours' competition that especially encourages participation by young and amateur film makers.

In 2017 the RFF will be one of the year's Jamaica 55 Independence celebrations, and will be held in the center of Kingston on the lawns of Devon House, a national monument and one of Jamaica's most visited historic landmarks.

Over the years the JIRFF has screened films from the USA, UK, Germany, Canada, Spain, Brazil, Hawaii, Serbia, Cuba, New Zealand, Austria, France, Israel, Italy and the Caribbean islands. Programmes showcasing RFF Award-winning films have been screened at the O2 in London, Rototom Reggae Sunsplash - Spain, One Love Reggae Festival - Kent, England, and in Serbia for the Jamaica 50 Independence celebrations.

In 2017 the RIFF will present a programme of the Festival's Award-winning films in London in July as part of the Jamaica 55 Independence celebrations.
