About the festival

The Jocunda Music, Film & Theatre Festival is a festival that celebrates the artist and will be held at ARTEL Hotel in Brooklyn, New York. ARTEL is a unique hotel. Our motto: The Destination for Creative Minds. The festival is brought to you by the producers of the acclaimed Strawberry One-Act Festival, which has been in existence since 1995. They just completed a run at The Leonard Nimoy Thalia at Peter Norton Symphony Space on Broadway at 95th Street in NYC. The Jocunda Festival was created to provide a platform for artists to obtain exposure and to network and make connections to collaborate on future projects.

Plays can also be submitted for the acclaimed Strawberry One-Act Festival for plays with running times between 15 - 30 minutes. Also for the Strawberry Theatre Festival for plays with a running time of 40 - 90 minutes. The Strawberry Festival will run during August through October 2020. We are also accepting submissions of plays for our Virtual Play Reading Series on Zoom. Our Play Reading Series is presented on Sundays at 7pm or 8pm EST New York Time followed by a TALK BACK with the playwright and artists. We started the Play Reading Series in April and we present it every Sunday. Some plays presented in the Series are invited to present their play in the Strawberry One-Act Festival.

Awards will be given out in March 2021 at the closing ceremonies for:
Best Short Film, Best Narrative, Best Animation Film, Best Music Video and The Audience Choice Award.

Awards will be given out for the Strawberry One-Act Theatre Festival for Best Play, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Set Design, Best Costume Design, Best Video Diary Short Film and the Audience Choice Award.

Films submitted to the festival must not have had a screening in New York City.

Plays submitted for the Strawberry One-Act Theatre festival must not have had a performance in NYC between November and February 2021.

Screenwriters can submit 10 pages of their script to be read for the general public and industry. A Talk Back we take place after reading the screenplay.

Playwrights can submit their play here. Scripts should state the running time. Include a breakdown of characters with description in your play. Some plays will be considered for the Strawberry One-Act Festival, which will run during the month of January and February 2021.

Submit your play for the Strawberry One-Act Festival, which will be presented in January, February and March 2021. We are accepting short plays and musicals 15-30 minutes and long plays and musicals 40-90 minutes. Plays should include the running time. A breakdown of the characters. Let us know if you will need us to help you get a local director for your play. Also the playwright must include their bio. Make sure your contact info is also on your script. Name, Email Address, Mailing Address and Telephone Number.

Plays selected will be given 1 technical rehearsal on Zoom. If you would like us to handle Casting, Publicity, obtaining a Director and Rehearsing your play on Zoom we can for a Fee. Some plays will be invited to present their play in the Strawberry One-Act Festival.
