Welcome to Jump Cuts Film Festival which will showcase the work of film-makers across the globe. This exciting new event is taking place in the centre of Leeds in September 2020 and will be FREE for anyone to attend. The venue is actually only 0.7 miles from where the world’s very first films were made on Leeds Bridge in 1888 by Louis le Prince - a perfect photo opportunity for film-makers should they wish to do selfies at the plaque only a 3 minute walk away!
The Festival is only a 9 minute walk from Leeds City Train Station and there's plenty of parking very close by. Today Leeds is a leading centre for film culture in a major European region for filmmaking, and at the time of the festival will be the home of new Channel 4 offices and studios.
Talking of Channel 4, one of the guest judges will be Mushy Asghar, from Channel Four’s 'Educating Yorkshire', who'll also be presenting awards, including one for the most inspirational/motivational film. This can be in any area.
Stand up comedian Liam Tulley, who won the 'King Gong' at The Comedy Store in 2014 and who's sharp observations and dry witted humour have since helped him to become a 'So You Think You're Funny' Semi-Finalist, a 'Hilarity Bites' finalist and 'Laughing Horse New Act of the Year' Semi-finalist will also be judging the Best Comedy.
The Music Video category will be judged by musicians who regularly perform at The Cavern Club in Liverpool - the cradle of British pop music and the club where the Beatles musical identity was formed!
Submissions are invited from across the world and there’ll also be a special category for Yorkshire film-makers.
Time allowing we’ll also be having selected Q&As with a couple of directors/producers.
Winners of the various categories will be announced by several people on the day, including Mushy Asghar from Channel Four's 'Educating Yorkshire'.
