About the festival

In the shadow of the profound and necessary national conversation about racial justice, the 8th annual Justice Film Festival presented by Docs/ology returns in 2020 as an all virtual event taking place November 18-20, 2020. The three-day festival will consist of over 30 selected features and shorts including world premiere screenings, content from studios and emerging filmmakers, as well as “Behind The Lens” talkback sessions recorded at The Sheen Center with filmmakers from around the world. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, JFF has shifted from an in-person to online event and is partnering with Eventive to offer patrons in New York City and beyond the opportunity to screen this year's top films promoting a more just world from the comfort of their homes.

We are coming off our best year yet in 2019, which included an opening night preview of Focus Features 'Dark Waters' starring Mark Ruffalo, Anne Hathaway and Tim Robbins. We welcomed auteur screenwriter and director Paul Schrader (Taxi Driver, Raging Bull) to speak following a special presentation of his latest film 'First Reformed', and we also hosted the world premiere of 'Free Burma Rangers' which went on to have a very successful theatrical release in February playing in over 850 theaters nationwide.

JFF director and founder Andy Peterson says, “This year will be unlike any in our history, but we are embracing the opportunity to grow our audience by taking the Justice Film Festival out of New York and into living rooms everywhere. Given all that’s been exposed in 2020, we believe it’s important to give voice to a diverse group of filmmakers who are thoughtfully exploring the truth about the human condition with excellence, artistry and substance. It’s our best lineup ever and we are proud to participate in the greater movements of equity and inclusion by sharing these groundbreaking films.”
