About the festival

The LYFA Kids Holiday Movie Contest and Festival is a fun way to introduce young filmmakers to movie making competitions and film festivals. Kids ages 7-17 can submit their films for a chance to win awards and prizes. A panel of distinguished judges will select winners in various categories at a public screening.

First Prize - A $1,000 movie making prize package
Alternate Prizes - Plaques denoting the filmmaker has one in various categories such as Best Director, Best Editing, Best Special Effects.
Top movies will receive a one day theatrical release on December 8, 2018.

Terms and rules

You must be between the ages of 7 and 17 at the time of submission to enter this contest.

Movies must be no longer than 3 minutes in duration.

All movies must be PG or G. No guns may be used (real or fake.) No realistic depiction of violence may be included in the film.

Entries must be filmed and edited by the person or persons submitting. Your parents can help but the idea and execution needs to come from you. It is a kids contest after all.

You can submit more than one movie (separate fees apply for each submission)

All submissions that meet the deadline will be judged. The judges will decide if your movie is appropriate for public screening. The deadline is November 30th at 11:59pm.

Selected movies will be shown at a public screening at a yet TBD theater.

Winners will be announced at the screening.

All movies will be displayed on website starting a few days after the festival.
