About the festival

The annual Merlion Film Festival Singapore (MFFS) is an inspirational event bringing together all the film organisations, storytellers and artists in Singapore, to celebrate their efforts towards a sustainable future and accelerate their impact. The festival hopes to foster more collaboration, raise awareness & ignite a public passion towards independent talent film makers and artists around the world!
The Merlion Film Festival Singapore showcases a selection of world films, giving local audiences a taste of world’s diversity and creativity. Films screened are recent and have encountered success in their country of origin.

The Merlion Film Festival will showcase number of feature films and short films. Each film we designate as an "Official Selection" will receive a high-resolution .png image of our festival laurels to be used for marketing and promotional materials as the filmmaker sees fit Out of the official selections, an international jury will select one winner in each category (Narrative feature, Documentary feature, Narrative short, Documentary short...) The winning filmmakers will receive a high-resolution .png image of our festival laurels with the "WINNER" label to be used as the filmmaker sees fit. With the filmmaker's permission, we will also host the winning films prominently on our website.
Please note that only films with " WINNER" and a few film with " Finalist" will be screened in cinema, with a Red Capet and Q&A section.

Terms and rules

The Merlion Film Festival Singapore accepts all forms and genres: short films, medium length films, feature films, drama, experimental, comedy, horror, slow cinema, sci fi, fantasy, animation and documentary.The appropriate entry fee must accompany each entry. This nonrefundable fee covers screening and handling costs, and will not be returned.

Specify only one main Category (Fiction, Non-Fiction, Animation) for your film to be in.Films or videos using non-licensed, copyrighted musical or literary properties without legal permission are not eligible.The competition is open to professional and nonprofessional filmmakers. Entries must be submitted in the completed form in which they will be judged. The decisions of the Jury are final. The Jury reserves the right not to select a winner in any given category. The Jury reserves the right to change a category to the benefit of the film.

All non-English language films must be subtitled in English. The exhibition version (film) must be submitted in the following file formats: Digital Cinema Package (DCP) in EXT2/EXT3 format with 24Fps, plus 2 Blu-ray discs. An online private screener (Vimeo, Youtube with a password) file (MP4, MOV,etc.) is needed. Entry does not guarantee acceptance into the festival. All submission materials WILL NOT be returned. We also accept submissions that have premiered elsewhere and that may have distribution agreements already in place. Multiple entries are allowed, however a separate entry form must be submitted for each.

All the films screening in cinema and theater need to be classified by Singapore government authority, please see the regulation here: https://www.imda.gov.sg/, if any question, please feel free to contact us.

ENTRY LIABILITY
The filmmaker holds the Merlion Film Festival Singapore, its management, juries, subsidiaries, agents, sponsors, affiliates, and etc. harmless from any and all claims of liability resulting from entry. The filmmaker certifies to have full rights. Producer will indemnify the organizers of the Festival against all claims, demands, costs, damages, expenses (including legal fees), proceedings and losses resulting from the screening of the film at the Festival or from claims by any third parties.
