Categories and fees

Vs Media. Democracy, Media & Feminisms
Early Bird (19th January, 2020) $0
Regular (19th February, 2020) $15
Late (20th March, 2020) $30

Mass media are power devices that permeate immediate communication, power narratives that normalize social phenomena. Identity, gender roles and a wide variety of practices can de intervened by media and become part of the norm. There are discourses of otherness that rise to give voice to the voiceless and make visible problems that “do not matter”, showcasing marginal communities and minorities that create new subjectivities every day. Feature films 50 minutes long and up.

Ecofeminism
Early Bird (19th January, 2020) $0
Regular (19th February, 2020) $15
Late (20th March, 2020) $30

Because of their gender, women and men assume -voluntarily or by force- certain roles within their family, work and community environments. In this sense, each person uses, administers and preserves the natural resources in different ways. Although the activities associated to each gender greatly depend on the access to these resources, the control that each person can exercise over them is also different. Ecofeminism is the study of these roles and their consequences, both social and environmental. Feature films about ecology, environmental impact of economical activities, natural resources, among other subjects, from all countries and genres. Feature films 50 minutes long and up.

Human Mobility and Migration
Early Bird (19th January, 2020) $0
Regular (19th February, 2020) $15
Late (20th March, 2020) $30

Human mobility and migration have a direct influence on social practices and gender roles. Borders, crossings and frontiers establish differences, but also interstices, spaces that contain new relationships. All cultural manifestations are transgressed, transformed and intensified in the borders. All films related to subjects such as migration, displacement, mobility and diaspora are eligible for this section. MICGénero accepts submissions from every country and genre. Feature films 50 minutes long and up.

Minorities in Focus
Early Bird (19th January, 2020) $0
Regular (19th February, 2020) $15
Late (20th March, 2020) $30

The minority status affects and erodes social conditions; it is an exercise that brings disequilibrium to the norm. Every minor creation helps to confront the establishment, undergoing a violent clash against the socially instituted ideas. Looking through this conscience is a way to find new styles, genres and narratives. In this sense, minoritizing cultural norms allows the creation of different content, since it does not reproduce the rules, but constitutes them, rejecting dominant statutes and disorganizing genres. Feature films 50 minutes long and up.

Dissonances
Early Bird (19th January, 2020) $0
Regular (19th February, 2020) $15
Late (20th March, 2020) $30

Film, music and gender perspective. Feature films from all countries and genres. Feature films 50 minutes long and up.

Ageism and intergenerational relationships
Early Bird (19th January, 2020) $0
Regular (19th February, 2020) $15
Late (20th March, 2020) $30

Ageism is a form of discrimination mainly based on age. However, it is also related to other elements such as race, sex, gender and religion, among others. All of these factors affect relationships between individuals and society. Age is a tool to establish categories and determine subjectivities. Belonging to an age culture enables predicting certain attributes, syles or cultures, values and even feelings. Age is also identity. Feature films 50 minutes long and up.

Imprisonment and Reclusion
Early Bird (19th January, 2020) $0
Regular (19th February, 2020) $15
Late (20th March, 2020) $30

There are many ways of imprisonment and reclusion; families that limit the freedom of their members, women that are captured and used as objects, sentences determined by governments in order to repress and silence the voice of the ones who shout before injustice. The criminalization of homosexuality, the lack of justice in cases of abuse and coercion, the prejudices surrounding migrants and the penalization of pregnancy interruption evince the urgent need to redefine and reflect upon the causes and purpose of incarceration. Feature films 50 minutes long and up.

Resilience
Early Bird (19th January, 2020) $0
Regular (19th February, 2020) $15
Late (20th March, 2020) $30

Resilience is the ability to face extrem situations and recovering from them. In terms of human rights, resilience implies courses of action and response to the advertisities, wheter natural or human, generated by inequality and injustice. Resilience is a moviment and trangression, the tolerance discriminated people develop in order to subvert whatever subject them, both individually and collectively, by being active agents capable of shaping their own destinity.

Athletic Body
Early Bird (19th January, 2020) $0
Regular (19th February, 2020) $15
Late (20th March, 2020) $30

The body is a construct influeced by gender, ethnicity, and social class. Bodies spring form heterogeneous sources: competition, fight, rivalry, art and war. The athletic body establishes a prototype of human, ideal and strong, excluding the functionally diverse bodies and marking the limits of the inhuman. By producing bodies capable of materializing the norm, social inequality is generated through performativity. The male sports arena is public, while the female practice remain private. Queer theory is the theoretical approach to sexual dissidence and the deconstruction of sexual identities that have been stigmatized. Through re-signification, it reaffirms that exercising different sexualities is a human right. Postporn practices are related to queer activism and postfeminism. It is a different way to make, consume, produce and interpret porn and erotic stories, in which the images, sexual roles, gender stereotypes and situations are critically rethought.
