About the festival

The Moving Body–Moving Image Bi-Annual Festival gives voice to social justice themes in the hybrid form of filmmaking, also called ScreenDance. The thematic Festival was founded in 2018 by Gabri Christa, who is also the curator. The inaugural Festival's theme focussed on the representation of the moving brown body.

The second edition of the Festival called Moving Body - Moving Image: AGING & OTHERING focusses on the AGING Moving Body and it's representation on Screen, and will take place in NYC on April 4, 2020 at Barnard College, Altschul Hall / Atrium and the Movement Lab and will include film screenings, installations, panel and guest speakers.

Terms and rules

- The film must depict the MOVING AGING BODY on screen, as interpreted by filmmaker.
- The film submitted must have movement dance or other movement as the main language.
- The Film must be a SHORT film under 30 minutes,
- The film must have at least one older person (65+) as choreographer, producer, writer, performer, or other important role in the film.
By submitting to the Moving Body - Moving Image Festival, Filmmaker confirms that they have all necessary legal authority and rights required to submit their film, and to publicly screen said film in the case of acceptance.
Films and videos that are non-fiction or incorporate non-fiction elements of any genre, but specifically dancefilm documentaries with movement,
Moving Body- Moving Image is not a “premiere” festival meaning that your film does not have to be a premiere to be accepted.
We do not accept works in progress.
Preview format must be through secure online screeners.
Non-English language films must be subtitled in English.
