MystiCon Independent Film Festival

Films from Virginia and surrounding states plus Washington DC. Filmmaker must be in one of these states to submit to this category. If selected, all films must provide an h264, 1080p mp4.

Shorts from United States or US Territories. Must be English speaking or have English Subtitles embedded into the film. Must be 25 minutes or less. All films must be English speaking or have English subtitles embedded into the film. If selected, all films must provide an h264, 1080p mp4.

Films by Students must be submitted using educational (.edu) email address. Must be English Speaking or have English subtitles embedded into the film. Must be under 25 minutes in length. If selected, all films must provide an h264, 1080p mp4.

Foreign film shorts must be either English speaking or with embedded English subtitles. No documentaries or feature length will be accepted. No shorts over 25 minutes will be accepted. If selected, all films must provide an h264, 1080p mp4.

Films must be under 25 minutes, English speaking or have subtitles embedded into the film. Films must be fan films related to something like Dr. Who, Star Wars, Star Trek, Firefly, Harry Potter, etc. or a SWEDED REMAKE of any popular film. If selected, all films must provide an h264, 1080p mp4.

English speaking and rated for all audiences including young children only. Films must be 10 minutes or less. Animations are encouraged but must be appropriate for young audiences. If selected, all films must provide an h264, 1080p mp4.

Films must be in the Thriller or Suspense genre. Must be English speaking or have English Subtitles embedded into the film. Must be 25 minutes or less. If selected, all films must provide an h264, 1080p mp4.

Films must be in the Horror genre. Must be English speaking or have English Subtitles embedded into the film. Must be 25 minutes or less. If selected, all films must provide an h264, 1080p mp4.

Must be in the Horror or Thriller Comedy Genre. Must be English speaking or have English Subtitles embedded into the film. Must be 25 minutes or less. If selected, all films must provide an h264, 1080p mp4.

Must be a comedy NOT in the Horror or Thriller/Suspense Genre. Must be English speaking or have English Subtitles embedded into the film. Must be 25 minutes or less. If selected, all films must provide an h264, 1080p mp4.

Must be in the Science Fiction or Fantasy genre. Must be English speaking or have English Subtitles embedded into the film. Must be 25 minutes or less. If selected, all films must provide an h264, 1080p mp4.

Language must be English. Less than 15 minutes of other languages with English subtitles embedded into the film will be acceptable. Films must be less than 115 minutes. If selected, all films must provide an h264, 1080p mp4.

Any Non-English Speaking film from 26 to 115 minutes in length. We only have room to accept one non-English speaking film into the festival in any year. Film must have English Subtitles embedded in the film. If selected, all films must provide an h264, 1080p mp4.

Documentaries must relate to Geek or Fan Culture. Sci Fi, Fantasy, Horror, Thriller/Suspense or have strong Comedy influences. Documentary subjects that have been popular with our audience include Star Wars toys, Video Games and Gamers, and Dr. Who. We may accept a full length documentary, but we are more likely to accept them if they are less than 25 minutes. Must be English speaking or have English Subtitles embedded into the film. If selected, all films must provide an h264, 1080p mp4.

Any film or video primarily designed to showcase a song or band. A story that is set to music may be submitted under a different short film category.

Animated Short films that are PG, PG-13 or 18+ or primarily designed for adults. Must be English speaking or have English Subtitles embedded into the film. Must be 25 minutes or less. If selected, all films must provide an h264, 1080p mp4.

Any film primarily created as a series for YouTube or Television. Links should be provided for additional episodes, particularly if the episode being submitted does not stand alone well. Must be English speaking or have English Subtitles embedded into the film. Must be 25 minutes or less. If selected, all films must provide an h264, 1080p mp4.
