About the festival

NecronomiCon Providence is a convention dedicated to the exploration of weird fiction in film, art, and literature.

What is weird fiction, you ask? It's a strange hybrid genre pulling together elements of horror, science-fiction, fantasy, and surrealism into a unique tone and flavor.

We're looking for weird films that fit that bill! We are a non-competitive film festival; that means we are focused on the celebration of all things weird, not awards. We also don't focus on year limits or requirements that a film be made within a certain timeline --- just that it be awesome and fits somewhere within the realm of horror. That's right; your film needn't be exclusively Lovecraft-oriented to be included. Cosmic horror, dark psychological horror, creature features, cult, and tentacles are all encouraged. Lovecraft adaptations are of course, welcome, as are adaptations of Lovecraft's literary circle, inspirations, or spiritual descendants, such as: Edgar Allan Poe; Lord Dunsany; Robert Bloch; Robert W. Chambers; Clark Ashton Smith; Arthur Machen; M.R. James; Robert E. Howard; Stephen King; Clive Barker, etc. Got a question? Please get in touch.

Attendees come from around the world for four days of celebration and discussion of this strange and beloved genre.

Past guests have included Ramsey Campbell, Diane O'Bannon, and Stuart Gordon.

Past events have included performances by the bands Neurosis, Lustmord and Earth, a special interactive screening of the Dunwich Horror, masquerade balls, panels galore, gaming tables, and much more.

The convention is held in Providence, RI and will run from August 17th - August 20th 2017.

Necronomicon Providence is a non-competitive film festival that doesn't give out awards.
