About the festival

The New Holland Island International Debut Film Festival is focused on films that display original aesthetics, represent a cultural and geographic diversity and have the potential to make a cinematic statement that will stand the test of time. Our mission is to support creativity and introduce new names to a wider audience. The festival takes place in St. Petersburg based on the New Holland: Cultural Urbanization project.

The president of the festival is Alexandr Rodnyansky, Russian and international producer.

Terms and rules

The first competitive edition will be held from August 14—20, 2020, centered around international competition programs of feature-length and short films. Feature-length fiction films are accepted for the feature-length competition, while the short film competition accepts documentary, experimental and fiction films that will be judged by the jury on equal basis.

First and second feature films with a duration of 45 minutes or more, completed in 2019 or 2020, are accepted for the international competition of full-length features.

Documentary, experimental and fiction films up to 45 minutes long, made by directors who have not made feature debut and completed in 2019 or 2020, are eligible for the international competition of short films.

For all films with dialogue, English subtitles are necessary if the original language is not English.

By submitting an application, the participant confirms that he or she is the legal owner of the application materials and guarantees that copyright, literary, musical, artistic, intellectual property or personal rights were not violated.

By sending an application, the participant consents to the use of materials (excerpts up to 3 minutes, scenes, posters, trailers) for promotional purposes of the festival both in print and on the Internet.

If your film is selected, you will need to provide a copy in DCP or HD format (Apple ProRes). Detailed technical requirements will be sent out to all selected participants individually.

When submitting an application, you must pay a fee of 3 euros for short films and 5 euros for full-length feature. Payment is made on FilmFreeway when submitting the application.
