About the festival

Sunday 5th July 2020 Update.

***Any films submitted for 2020, you'll automatically get a waiver code for additional free entry in 2021 when this season's entries conclude.***

With the 2020 Edinburgh Fringe cancelled and lockdown measures in the UK slowly lifting we are aiming to host a version of the Nightpiece Film Festival at the Etcetera Theatre, Camden, London, UK across during Monday 5th - Sunday 11th October 2020.

In normal circumstances this venue would be an excellent solution, however, submissions have been totally decimated by the Covid situation and social distancing restrictions across the UK theatre/ents industry mean we can do little to confidently promote the live 2020 version of this event. It is a situation of complete limbo and a total waiting game. After careful consideration, we have chosen not to run an online programme - we simply do not have a sufficient entry pool or the interest to justify the organisation.

Our event dateline reflects the Camden re-schedule and all of our entry deadlines are extended accordingly, however, please note although the 2020 Edinburgh Festival Fringe is officially cancelled, this is our regular home and we'll be back there in 2021. As it stands, an August event in Edinburgh - something we were originally hoping for - will not happen.

Finally, Nightpiece / Al Carretta, have shot the feature 'Set Roaring War' during UK lockdown and under restrictions at the end of June proving things can be done. Hopefully, we will have a live event in the Autumn but this decision is totally beyond our control. Let's hope everything is back to normal for 2021.

Nightpiece Film Festival History

We have premiered films in the past six years of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe that have gone on to many other festivals across the world. Recent examples that began their festival runs at Nightpiece include Kit Loyd's 'The Audition' (2019), Charlotte Bydwell's 'The Nude Model' (2018) and Keith Farrell's 'Rabbit Punch' (2017).

Previous Season

Since 2014 we've now showcased over 250+ films. The 2019 Nightpiece Film Festival ran from Monday 19th - Friday 23rd August and presented 28 films across 5 thematically curated programmes presented at Symposium Hall (v43), Edinburgh as part of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
