About the festival

ANNOUNCEMENT: In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, OUTSOUTH has postponed its inaugural event from August 13-16 to September 11-12, 2020. Deadlines for submissions have not been impacted, but please refer to this page for updates and changes that might affect this year's festival. Thank you.

OUTSOUTH Queer Film Festival, formerly The North Carolina Gay and Lesbian Film Festival (NCGLFF) is looking forward to the festival in 2020. OUTSOUTH is the second largest Queer Film Festival in the Southeastern United States, attracting thousands of patrons yearly. Since its beginning in 1995, the Festival has featured a diverse array of shorts, documentaries and feature films. The Durham Convention and Visitors Bureau named OUTSOUTH as a Signature Event for Durham, the highest honor bestowed on a cultural event or attraction by the organization. The Carolina Theatre of Durham, NC produces the festival.

OUTSOUTH celebrates a worldwide glimpse of today’s queer, gay, lesbian and transgender life, helps bring the community together and features entertaining and sophisticated films and filmmaking.

OUTSOUTH Queer Film Festival seeks submissions in many categories. Please extensively review the categories BEFORE submitting your film. We are especially seeking submissions that include African-American, Asian or Latino characters and themes. We include animated short films.

In 2020 North Carolina Gay & Lesbian Film Festival (NCGLFF) is taking a new name but the organizers are the same. OUTSOUTH Queer Film Festival is now scheduled for September 11-12, 2020.
