The Philadelphia Latino Film Festival's mission is to nurture, through showcasing emerging and established Latino and Latinx creatives and filmmakers; by promoting the richness and diversity of our cultures and experiences. Celebrating by fostering cross-cultural understanding and dialogue.
PHLAFF will include screenings of groundbreaking works from all genres: short film, narrative, documentary, animation and full feature films. Festival programs will attract a diverse audience, developing a new space in the Philadelphia region where filmmakers, actors, producers can meet with other artists, engage with audiences and present and discuss innovative work.
Through screenings, public discussion groups (both virtual and in person), workshops, lectures and special events, The Philadelphia Latin Film Festival will engage the region’s diverse communities through the universal language of film creating critical connections to shared experiences and cross cultural understanding at both the national and international levels.

La misión del Philadelphia Latino Film Festival (PHLAFF por sus siglas en Inglés) es fomentar mostrando el trabajo de creativos y cineastas Latinos y Latinx tanto emergentes como establecidos; para promover la riqueza y diversidad en nuestra culturas y experiencias, celebrandola para fomentar el diálogo y la comprensión intercultural.
PHLAFF incluirá la proyección de material innovador en todos los géneros de narrativa, cortometrajes, documentales, animación y largometrajes. Los programas del festival atraen a un público diverso y brinda la oportunidad de desarrollar un nuevo espacio creativo en la región de Filadelfia, donde los realizadores, actores y productores pueden reunirse con otros artistas, interactuar con el público, presentar y discutir trabajos innovadores.
El Philadelphia Latino Film Festival, a través de las proyecciones, grupos de discusión pública (tanto virtuales como en persona), talleres, conferencias y eventos especiales, involucra a diversas comunidades por medio del lenguaje universal del arte, expresado en esta ocasión en la forma de películas, mismas que crean una conexión y comprensión intercultural tanto a niveles nacionales como internacionales.
SUBMISSION CATEGORIES & AWARDS
This year, PHLAFF will be accepting submissions for the categories listed below, as well as the LOLA Award and Youth Salon!
“Los Shorts Program” will choose a selection of short films to appear in one of the showcases as part of our festival weekend programs. This is the chance for emerging filmmakers to show their work at PHLAFF, complementing the other segments of our program that are curated. “Los Shorts Program” films must be 29 minutes or less, and must fall under the following categories:
• Animation
• Documentary
• Experimental
• Narrative
“Los Features Program” will choose a selection of feature films to appear in one of the showcases as part of our festival weekend programs. “Los Features Program” films must be 30 minutes or more, and must fall under the following categories:
• Animation
• Documentary
• Experimental
• Narrative
“Los Especiales Program” will choose a selection of web series, VR projects, and any other emerging media to appear in one of the showcases as part of our festival weekend programs. “Los Especiales Program” must fall under the following categories:
• Animation
• Documentary
• Experimental
• Narrative
LOLA
PHLAFF’s LOLA Award will recognize and honor cinematic achievements in filmmaking that brings together all of the elements that make for a great film, including direction, acting, cinematography, and great script/writing and storytelling. **LOLA FILMS MUST FALL UNDER THE CATEGORY OF LGBTQIA+.** Film(s) that receive the LOLA Award will also be screened at the festival. LOLA Award winner(s) and Honorable Mentions will receive an award plaque. Film(s) that receive the LOLA Award will also be screened at the festival. Honorable Mentions may be screened during the festival and/or during the year-round programming. LOLA Award Semi-Finalists receive the recognition as extraordinary films that were unfortunately not an Official Selection, Honorable Mention, or LOLA Award winner and do not receive laurels.
PHLAFF's Youth Salon is open to youth under 22 years of age who are Latin American, of Latin American heritage, or identify as Latino or Latinx who has at least one of the following roles in the making of the film; writer, actor, director, producer, or editor.
All non-English language works must have English subtitles at the time of submission at risk of disqualification. Laurels are only given out to Official Selections, Honorable Mentions, LOLA Award Winner(s), and Youth Salon Selections.

LOLA
El Premio LOLA de PHLAFF reconocerá y honrará los logros cinematográficos en la realización de películas que reúnen todos los elementos que hacen una gran película, incluyendo dirección, actuación, cinematografía y gran guión / escritura y narración de cuentos. ** LAS PELÍCULAS DE LOLA DEBEN CAER BAJO LA CATEGORÍA DE LGBTQIA +. ** Las películas que reciban el Premio LOLA también se proyectarán en el festival.
