About the festival

Pleasure Dome welcomes submissions of experimental, time-based media work by Canadian and international artists for our 2020-21 programming year.

Pleasure Dome is an artist-run presentation organization and publisher dedicated to experimental moving images in film, video, and media. Our organization is committed to presenting artists who expand, fracture, and scrutinize the traditional cinematic spectacle, including those who use moving image technologies that are digital, interactive, or performative. Pleasure Dome screens innovative works in engaging and “expanded” presentations, including installation and other unconventional exhibition formats.

Pleasure Dome is mandated to nurture an appreciation within the community at large for art expressed in the media of moving images of all formats, with or without sound; to educate the community at large in the history of artists’ moving images; to make available through public exhibition, local, Canadian and international artists’ moving images that are rarely if ever seen by the general public. Our screenings are hosted year-round and in a variety of venues. We often program short length and small format work while prioritizing the presentation of works by women, visible and invisible minorities, BIPOC folks, persons with disabilities, and LGBTQ2S+ persons.

Here are some current curatorial subjects in consideration: Afro-futurism, Afro-surrealism and new stories within Black diaspora and communities; experimental, extreme, and/or moving image Horror; contemporary Indian experimental; dying as it is experienced, interpreted, and managed; electroacoustics/experimental sound and video performance; intersections of manufacturing and ecology; strategies and imagined mad futures; gender and the natural world in relation to oppression, dominance, and colonization within science and politics; and anything else radical, critical, or weird.

We accept single channel films as well as multi-channel or expanded cinema projects, installation, and performance. If the form of your project is not well suited to single channel streaming, please include relevant links to additional materials in the project description or notes. If you have questions about your prospective submission, feel free to contact info@pdome.org

Pleasure Dome does not offer awards or prizes, but all selected artists will be paid screening fees at or above IMAA minimum rates: http://www.imaa.ca/imaa-media-arts-fee-schedules-for-2018-and-2019/

We would like to acknowledge funding support from the The Canada Council for the Arts, the Ontario Arts Council, and the Toronto Arts Council. Pleasure Dome is made possible through the generous support of our funders, as well as our members, sponsors and community partners.
