In 1993, the Providence Latin American Film Festival (PLAFF) originally named the “Festival of the New Latin American Cinema” began as an opportunity for Latin American film directors to exhibit their work. Over the year's, the Festival has been known as one of the most well-respected and unique events in the nation. PLAFF is one of the longest running events of it's kind in New England, and brings together different nationalities encompassing the Latin American continent, the United States, the Spanish speaking Caribbean, Spain, and Portugal to celebrate and discuss their similarities and differences, and share them with the community in a positive way.
The Providence Latin American Film Festival (PLAFF) is held annually during the last week pf September in the heart of Rhode Island’s Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration, promotes the Latin-American culture through the screening of feature, documentary, animated and short films. Filmmakers from around the globe have screened their films at this event. Many of these filmmakers are well known in their native countries, while many others are up and coming. PLAFF offers them and their stories exposure in the American market.
