About the festival

Queer Agenda TV show opportunity

In August the next episode of Queer Agenda a TV news magazine show featuring queer perspective journalism, news, short documentary films and investigation pieces about the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community mixed with studio interviews and comedy skits will be filmed in TV studios in MediaCityUK, England.

We are inviting international and UK film makers to produce TV news packages of 1 minute 30 seconds (or 1 minute 45 seconds) on a particular current affairs/news topic that is LGBT related or seen through a queer perspective, that would be current at the time of the show's transmission. The theme of the reports should either be fun, freedom or future and the show will be screened live on the big screen in the MediaCityUK plaza and online on Friday 28th August.

This is a student led project so we are looking for people to kindly volunteer to independently contribute a short news package which they would research, film with interviews, edit and then transfer to England to be included in the show. We will also accept LGBT themed short documentary films up to a maximum of 3 minutes, and interviews connected to LGBT current affairs lasting between 20 to 30 seconds (Sound on Tape/SOT). Our ultimate aim is to enter the episode into the prestigious Royal Television Society student factual programme awards later this year.

MediaCityUK is located in the North West of England, near the city of Manchester, and is the location of the new headquarters for two of the main British TV channels: BBC and ITV and is the location of the University of Salford campus where Queer Agenda will be filmed. This date, Friday 28th August, has been chosen as it is the day before Manchester holds its Pride parade. Manchester is famous for having the second largest LGBT population in the UK and was the place where the British version of the hit TV series Queer As Folk was filmed.

Here is a behind the scenes short film about the making of the pilot of Queer Agenda which was filmed in February: https://vimeo.com/123260506
The pilot episode was the finale to the Queer Media Festival, which annually celebrates LGBT storytelling through short films, in-conversations and live performances, and you can view the full episode here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xnkb5zzJVQA

Let us get our voices heard and show the world the stories, lives and diversity in our community and celebrate the fun, remember the freedom (or lack of) and look to the future through Queer Agenda!
