About the festival

THE REAL TO REEL YOUTH MEDIA SHOWCASE IS A GLOBAL COMPETITION THAT HONORS YOUTH WHO MAKE ORIGINAL AND UNIQUE SHORT FILMS THAT ADDRESS AN ISSUE PLAGUING THEIR LOCAL OR GLOBAL COMMUNITY. WE SEEK YOUTH PARTICIPANTS WHO CREATIVELY EXPRESS THEIR VISION FOR POSITIVE CHANGE.

Film is a universal language, spoken across the globe. Better Youth, Inc., believes the human experience is a collection of stories. In our third year, in addition to stories about social issues and affecting positive change, we are highlighting that focus on reunification.

As a community, we need to stand together and stand strong as we overcome daily obstacles that can impede our ability to succeed. These stories can be found in our families, in our relationships, in our communities, across political boundaries and perhaps even within ourselves. "CHANGE" may mean something different to everyone. We all have our struggles, we’ve all been knocked down. However, whether we run, walk, or crawl, we need to keep going. It’s these stories that shape who we are as a nation, a gender, an individual. Its our collective impact that causes social change and justice for all.

WE ARE SEEKING HIGH SCHOOL (14-18) & COLLEGE (19-24) AGED YOUTH TO SUBMIT MEDIA THAT INSPIRES, INFORMS AND GENERATES DIALOGUE THAT CALLS FOR ACTION AND SOLUTIONS.

As you formulate your film please consider these questions.. These are only suggestions please feel free to experiment with the theme.

• What is your idea of changing the world with your work?
• How can the essences of social justice be captured via film?
• How do you see the broken being repaired?
• How does the foster care system contribute to change or a lack of?
• How can change be described within politics ?

“Through the art of film, youth and communities around the world will be reunified.”
