About the festival

ReAnima is the annual international festival for animated films in Bergen, Norway’s second largest city. The festival emerged as a response to the increasing need to give the city a space to interact with animated art in all its variations, and to offer animated content for all audiences.

ReAnima offers various animated film screenings and animated film contests for both adults and kids. The festival also arranges many other activities, such as animation workshops, lectures on animation, master classes with professional animators, interviews and debates, exhibitions, and so on.

As an international festival, ReAnima welcomes guests, contestants, jury members and audience members from all around the world!

We also accept all forms of animation techniques.

UPDATE! Due to the large number of submitted films, we have changed our notification date to Tuesday October 6th. That's when entrants will be notified, if their films have been accepted to the festival.

Awards: Best Professional Animated Short Film, Best Student Animated Short Film, ReAnima Kids, Best Animated Music Video, Best Experimental Animated Film, Best Animated Short Documentary.

All films submitted in these categories must be animated short films, and these animated short films must have been completed in either 2018, 2019 or 2020.
Live-action films, full-length feature films, or films completed BEFORE 2018 will be disqualified.

Every participant can submit a maximum of 3 animated short films.

All contestants will be awarded with a selection certificate at the festival, and the winners will receive a certificate stating their respective place. The certificate will be sent to you if you cannot be present at the festival to collect it.

Terms and rules

Please note: The animated short films submitted to the festival competition programs CANNOT be older than two years. This means that all animated short films submitted to the 2020 edition of ReAnima MUST have been finished between 2018 and 2020.
Please include in your submission form what year the film was completed.

Individuals who have the rights to the finished material can be individuals or collectives, producers, directors or animators. Every participant can submit a maximum of 3 animated short films.

It is not necessary that the works are unpublished. All works must include credit titles. Works with dialogue in a language other than English must be translated into English.

ReAnima is an animation festival. Therefore, the short films submitted to the festival must be animated. Live-action films will not be considered. However, the festival will accept animated short films that mix animation with live-action footage, as long as the main focus is on the art of animation.

The festival organizers assume that those who send the works to the contest own the rights to the material. For this reason, ReAnima does not take on any responsibility derived from a possible case of plagiarism.

The authors of the selected works cede their work and its rights for its screening, reproduction and diffusion within the framework of ReAnima: Bergen International Animation Festival, as well as in its itinerant screenings. The authors have the right to ask when and where their short films will be screened.

All contestants will be awarded with a selection certificate at the festival, and the winners will receive a certificate stating their respective place. The certificate will be sent to you if you cannot be present at the festival to collect it.

The contestants must fully accept the present rules. For any doubts in their interpretation, the criterion of ReAnima will prevail. The contestant expressly waives the jurisdiction that may correspond to him or her, accepting the courts and tribunals of Bergen, Norway as the sole and competent to resolve any claim.

ReAnima reserves the right to suspend the festival due to force majeure. Organizers reserve the right to modify these rules due to external causes that imply a modification of some of the structural elements.
