About the festival

Render: The Vancouver International Music Video Festival is an annual event that showcases the art of the music video and the creativity of the filmmakers involved in producing them. Submissions from independent and commercial filmmakers, emerging or established, are all recognized and encouraged.

Render’s focus is on innovative and cutting-edge music videos that push the creative boundaries of the art form. The music video is often seen as a supplement to the music in the video: Render turns this understanding upside-down, championing the videos, the work that goes into them and the people who make them. Only the videos themselves will be judged at Render, so you can expect to hear a diverse range of musical styles as it is the quality and originality of the videos themselves that will count.

Render is run by the Vancouver Music Video Society, whose focus is on the convergence between music and film/video.

We are excited to be co-presenting Render with the Vancity Theatre again this year.

Terms and rules

RULES:

Music videos must have been completed on or after January 1, 2017. Only music videos up to 10 minutes in length will be considered by The Render Festival (“Render”). In other words, music videos submitted must be 10 minutes or shorter.

Render does not guarantee submitted music videos will be shortlisted for the festival. All information posted by Render is subject to change without prior notice.

Individuals and groups (“Applicant”) submitting music videos to Render for consideration and possible showing must possess all necessary rights and permissions for all video and audio tracks submitted to Render. Render is not responsible for clearing, publishing, performance or other rights for the music videos it screens or promotes on its site or at the festival.

The Applicant grants Render the non-exclusive rights to reproduce the video in whole or in part and to showcase the video for the purposes of the festival or its promotion (until December 31, 2022). Render agrees not to claim the rights in this paragraph in relation to submissions that are not selected for showing.

If the Applicant’s film is selected to be shown at the festival, the Applicant will be required to submit a high quality, screen-ready digital version to Render (i.e., the video must be at least 720 pixels high, and in MPEG, MOV, AVI, or MP4 format). Failure to submit a video meeting the minimum technical quality requirements by September 15, 2016 may result in elimination from Render.

If you are younger than 18 years old please send a letter to Render written by your legal representative (e.g., parents), which enables you to enter the contest. Due to legal restrictions we cannot accept applications by people younger than 18 years old without consent from their legal representatives.

All submission deadlines are in Pacific Standard Time (PST) and are accepted until 11:59pm PST.

TERMS & CONDITIONS:

By signing, I the Applicant acknowledge and agree to the above Rules section and to the following Terms and Conditions:

To the best of my knowledge, all statements in this document are true. I, as the Applicant, am duly authorized, on my behalf and on behalf of any person or entity that has ownership rights in the work, to submit it to Render and I represent that this submission is not in violation of any law and that it does not violate any right of any other parities.

I hold Render, its management, employees and volunteers, as well as any of its fiscal sponsors and affiliated entities, harmless from any damages or losses relating to any materials I may submit.

In the case that my submission is selected for showing at Render, I agree to give Render the non-exclusive rights to reproduce the video in whole or in part and to showcase the video for the purposes of the festival or its promotion from the time I am sent a notice of acceptance until December 31, 2022.

Render retains the right to alter, shorten or cancel the festival, and will not be held liable for compensation in any of these situations. Render agrees that upon the event of cancelling the festival, all rights related to the selected submission will revert to the Applicant and where relevant, the Applicant's associates.

I am or will be over 19 years of age on or before November 4th, 2017.
