About the festival

DEAR FILMMAKERS,
PLEASE NOTE THAT SAGA 2020 HAS BEEN CANCELLED DUE TO COVID-19.
WE WILL BE BACK ON THE 13TH/ 20TH/ 27TH OF AUGUST, 2021. WE LOOK FORWARD TO BEING ABLE TO SCREEN YOUR FILMS AND OFFER SAGA AWARDS AT THAT TIME.
UNTIL THEN, THANK YOU AGAIN FOR YOUR WONDERFUL ENTRIES.
TAKE CARE, KEEP MAKING YOUR ART AND FIGHTING THE GOOD FIGHT.
KIND REGARDS,
THE SAGA TEAM.

SAGA is :
A grassroots film festival that creates a platform for women and girls to tell their own stories, to shape their own narratives and to define themselves before they are defined by others.
A deliciously culturally diverse cacophony of ideas and world perspectives.
A celebration of the vision of women and girls behind the camera.

If you consider that 93% of directors are male, then the question must surely be :

’Where are the women’s stories? What’s happened to them?’

Well, some of them are here, at SAGA. Other than creating a great volunteering experience and building community around film, SAGA is about screening these films, telling these untold stories, in all their diversity and wonderfulness.

SAGA is a way for women to tell their own stories from their own world perspective. With women and girls behind the camera, SAGA will be a festival full of surprises - expect to see lots of unusual and interesting films!

In a nutshell, SAGA is a defiantly culturally inclusive women's film festival based on the notion that the stories of women and girls matter.

NB We have had a name change. SAGA is now SAGA Adelaide : WIFF.

NB SAGA Adelaide : WIFF will take place over 3 Friday nights - the 7th, 14th and 21st of August, 2020.

NB Other than include other women artists (spoken word, musicians and artists), we are planning an outdoor party on the 7th. More info as it comes to hand!

Terms and rules

PLEASE NOTE THAT SUBMISSIONS WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED WITHOUT A SYNOPSIS, STILL SHOT AND SHORT BIOGRAPHY OF THE FILMMAKER.

FILMS MADE BY SOLO MALE DIRECTORS WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED AT ALL. While film crews can be mixed (male, female, other), there must at least be a girl or a woman directing, writing or producing the film as SAGA Adelaide : WIFF is a women-behind-the-camera film festival.

Films selected will then need to be transferred to DCP (by the film maker) in order to be screened at the festival. If there are any issues with this, please contact the director on sagawiff@gmail.com
