About the festival

NOTICE: Shortstacks 2020 has been postponed and will resume at a later date. Existing entries remain valid. More info: https://www.sl.nsw.gov.au/news/shortstacks-postponed

Australia's Shortstacks Short Film Festival will showcase the most engaging, imaginative and innovative entries from the State Library of NSW’s short film prize.

Shortstacks provides a unique opportunity for established and emerging filmmakers to create a short film with inspiration from the Library’s extraordinary collection – a collection which holds the memory of our state and nation.

Our judges will select the most engaging, imaginative and innovative entries to be showcased in the Shortstacks Short Film Festival at the Library in June 2020. The winners will be announced on the night by Australian film industry royalty and Shortstacks Judge Margaret Pomeranz AM.

Shortstacks is open to established and emerging filmmakers who are Australian citizens or permanent residents.

AUD$15,000 General Prize for filmmakers over 18 years
AUD$5,000 Youth Prize for filmmakers under 18 years of age at the time of entry

The finalists will be preserved in perpetuity as part of the State Library of NSW’s collection.
