About the festival

No limits, other than your imagination.

The Short+Sweet Film Festival is back. It is unique in the ever expanding world of Short+Sweet (currently encompassing festivals and events in 11 countries and 30 cities, and growing all the time) and culminating in our Grand Finals Event to be held in Hollywood in late 2019.

Short+Sweet Founder Mark Cleary and Festival Director Greg Dolgopolov, have committed to delivering “a world class festival with an A-List Hollywood finale”.

According to Short+Sweet Sydney-based Film Festival director, Dr Greg Dolgopolov, the most important aspect of Short+Sweet is to bring local filmmakers together and in direct contact with their audiences. Dolgopolov directed Melbourne’s first Short+Sweet Film festival in 2017 and noted the passionate discussions that continued between filmmakers, judges and audience members after each screening. “The shaping of networks for future projects… That connection is what Short+Sweet is so good at fostering.”

Heats start on Tuesday 27 August, doors open at 6:00pm, film screenings begin at 7:00pm. Heat Two will take place Tuesday 3 September with doors opening at 8:00pm and screenings begin at 8:30pm. Heat Three will take place Wednesday 4 September, doors open at 6:00pm, screenings at 7:00pm. Winners from each heat will screen again in the Finals on Thursday 5 September at 7:00pm, with doors opening at 6:00pm.

The Short+Sweet Film Festival is unique for three distinct reasons:
1) For just one entry you are in consideration for our 10 international festivals, opening up your chances to have your screen filmed around the world throughout 2019.
2) We have a very strong international network and this network is constantly expanding.
3) We are unique in that we have a very strong connection to theatre. We do not believe the gap between theatre and film should be soo wide and we aim to bridge this gap. With our Best Adaptation Award and our close partnership with our sister theatre festival, we encourage theatre and film practitioners to be one and the same.
4) We screen all sorts of films and all sorts of genres and support all sorts of filmmakers from seasoned pros to emerging artists

The winning film will be screened in Los Angeles at the Short+Sweet Hollywood Film Festival in October 2019 and there are many other awesome prizes up for grabs including mentorships with working Hollywood industry professional, producers and actors who are all on the Stella Adler Theater Board.

Awards include; Best Film, Best Director, Best Cinematography, Best Screenplay, Best Play to Film Adaptation, People's Choice, Best Actor & Best Actress.
