About the festival

River Restoration Northwest (RRNW) is excited to announce that we will be hosting our seventh annual ‘Stories of Our Watersheds” film event. Selected films will be screened in Portland OR, Seattle WA, and Bend OR. Our events feature a series of short documentary films that celebrate the different ways we experience, sustain and celebrate our river systems. Subsequent screenings are being planned within the Pacific NW with the potential to feature selected films on our website.

RRNW is seeking films that acknowledge the many disciplines, perspectives of the river or watershed restoration industry, watershed stakeholders and river users. Films should be documentary style and be entertaining, educational, and inspirational. We are encouraging films that focus on the theme of Changing Course: The challenges we face, the measures we take, to adapt to the critical changes looming in our climate, political, and social systems. Films shall not be commercial in nature and must have audio.

Films from the west coast of North America are preferred but are not a requirement. We have received and selected submissions from around the world. Visit our website for a list of films that have been selected in the past: https://www.rrnw.org/2019soowfilms/

Run times of 10 minutes or less, per film is preferred, with a maximum length of 20 minutes.

River Restoration Northwest is a nonprofit scientific and educational organization. Our mission is to advance the science and standards of practice of river restoration through an interdisciplinary approach.

An audience selected best in show award will be announced after the events.

Filmmakers of selected films are encouraged to attend the screenings and present their films. Selected filmmakers will receive two free ticket to the Portland screening and one free ticket to any other screening of the event films. We also provide opportunities for a question and answer session at the event.
