About the festival

Storyforms is Camden International Film Festival's showcase of interactive and immersive media, highlighting the work of innovative artists, filmmakers and journalists who are using new technologies and platforms to transform the ways nonfiction stories can be created and shared in the digital age.

The exhibit will open prior to the start of the festival, running from September 10-16, 2018.

ELIGIBILITY & CRITERIA
Storyforms is open to experiential nonfiction media produced and distributed across a wide range of forms and platforms. Submissions could include VR, AR and mixed reality experiences, 360 video, art installations, sculptures, multimedia websites, data visualizations, mobile apps, social media series, games, bots, live performances, wearable devices, participatory media projects, multi-platform documentaries, or some new genre we haven’t yet imagined. If your project is a linear documentary film, please submit it to CIFF here: https://filmfreeway.com/festival/CamdenIFF

We’re looking for artistic work that elaborates upon John Grierson’s definition of documentary as the “creative treatment of actuality.” It doesn’t have to be driven by a narrative, but there should be some representation of the “real.”

We are interested in the creative applications of new technologies, but also the exploration of new processes for documentary and nonfiction media making, particularly those that transform the relationships between artist, audience and subject.

Our priority is building a community of artists and staging meaningful encounters with innovative media art, so we don’t focus on premiere requirements. However, for projects that do premiere at CIFF, we work hard to ensure that they receive appropriate press coverage and industry attention.

ABOUT CAMDEN INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL
Founded in 2005 and recognized as one of the top documentary film festivals in the world, the Camden International Film Festival (CIFF) brings the finest non-fiction cinema to the rugged coast of Maine, showcasing over 80 documentary feature and short films -- as well as immersive, non-linear and VR works -- from around the world each fall.

CIFF is an experience just as unique as the films we exhibit. Nearly all films are followed by Q&A sessions with filmmakers and the festival boasts a number of musical performances, interactive installations, networking sessions and special events that enrich participant experiences. At CIFF, the emphasis is on building relationships between fellow filmmakers and industry. Each year our audiences grow, but our commitment to our mission remains the same. We love a good story, and we love to share them with our audiences.

CIFF's Points North Forum provides emerging documentarians with opportunities for professional development and creative inspiration. Programs include the year-round Points North Fellowship, masterclasses, workshops and international short form pitch opportunities such as The New York Times' Op Docs Pitch (2013), the AJ+ Pitch (2014) and the CMG Action Grant Pitch (2015). Past industry participants in the Forum include HBO, A&E, BBC, Participant Media, Al Jazeera America, Discovery, PBS, Ford Foundation, Tribeca Film Institute, Sundance Institute, Vimeo and Kickstarter.

The 2017 Camden International Film Festival and Points North Forum will take place September 14 - 17 in Camden, Rockport and Rockland, Maine.
