About the festival

The Animattikon Project is an event celebrating the art of animated film in all its aspects. Along with the projections of the animated films of the official selection, it offers a series of animation workshops, organized by animators from all over the world.
The Animattikon Project takes place in the town of Paphos, Cyprus. It takes its name after the Attikon Cinema, a historical theater, dating from 1938. As the second oldest cinema in Paphos, the Attikon cinema is one of the few points of reference that all generations of people of Paphos share.
Along with the workshops, the Animattikon Project proposes exhibitions, lectures, conferences and performances around the art of animation. It aims at presenting Animation as a true and complete form of art, in all its levels and at giving access to its techniques and secrets to the wide public.
It started as a project of the European Capital of Culture PAFOS2017 and is now an annual event having a double function: a venue for animators to show their work and an opportunity for the public to learn in depth the art of animation.

What's new for the fourth edition:
For the 2019 edition of the festival we are adding two new categories to which you can submit your films:
The first one is a separate Student Animated Short Film category, welcoming all student films under 20 minutes.
The second one is a category dedicated to Commissioned Animated Films, such as advertisements, promotional videos, educational animations etc.

For its fourth year the Animattikon Project continues the tradition it set last year, and offers the Golden Hat Awards. The prize will be a statuette created by the Kimonos Art Center's team. There is no money award. One prize will be awarded per category. The decision will be made by a jury of specialists in the field of animation.

Besides the prize, we will maintain the tradition of the two previous editions of the Animattikon Project, so all directors of selected films will receive, once the festival is concluded, a collectible print in lino-cut or silkscreen, with the festival's poster image.
