About the festival

The Milburn Stone Theatre is proud to present a film festival for those independently minded.

The North East Independent Film Festival is a one day celebration for filmmakers and film lovers in the greater Cecil county area. We aim to bring new voices and bold choices to the community with selections from this festival, be it in narrative, short form, documentarian and everything in between. The festival is currently slated for December 7th, 2019, if the amount of submissions and quality of submissions deem an additional day we will extend the festival to Sunday, December 8th as well.

Please note: we are taking submissions and presenting films from all over the world, not just Cecil county, however we are looking to give local filmmakers in the four state area (Maryland, Delaware, Pennslyvania and New Jersey) a platform with this festival and will offer those who attend a opportunity to talk about their films at the festival. In addition we are looking to create a series of awards that provide recognition for local filmmakers, as well as prizes awarded for film makers from outside of the area as well.

About the Milburn Stone Theatre:

Theater, music, dance, film and art are proudly brought to Cecil County by the Milburn Stone Theatre. The Milburn Stone is the leading performing arts venue serving the northeast region of Maryland, conveniently located off exit 100B of I-95.

A comprehensive organization, the Milburn Stone is accountable for a variety of missions within the theater facility including college, community, and public activities. The Milburn Stone staff is responsible for assisting the College in presenting activities that require use of the theater and affords community organizations the opportunity to present their offerings in a quality rental facility.

The theatre is named after the late actor, Milburn Stone, who starred as "Doc Adams" in the long running TV Western Gun Smoke. His wife and daughter have been long time benefactors of the theatre.

How will films be awarded?

We are still in the process of finalizing how winners are selected, but there will likely be determined from a mix of adjudication from the committee and from audience votes. In order to vote in the festival you will likely have to attend multiple sessions. This criteria will be changing on an ongoing basis depending on the committees suggestions.
