About the festival

The Charlie Chaplin Comedy Film Festival is a mixture of film and comedy, celebrating the early decades of cinema and the life of Charlie Chaplin, who spent his summer holidays for several years in our town, Waterville, in South-West Kerry, Ireland. There are screenings of classic movies, a special programme of Chaplin films, a circus, street performers and live comedy events, as well as music, dancing. The competitions aim to encourage young film-makers to follow in the footsteps of those great pioneers of film.

An award is given in each of the four submission categories. There are no cash prizes.

Terms and rules

In the Comedy and Social Commentary categories, anyone may enter a film up to 15 minutes in length. The Chaplins of the Future competition is confined to entries made while the film-makers were in full-time education.

We require a minimum 1080 HD copy of any film that is shortlisted for screening at the festival. All films should be in English or with embedded English Subtitles.
